Lundqvist has been so good for NYR but 8.5 for 7 years as a NYR fan i wish Sather would learn, Drury, Redden, Richards and now Lundqvist (maybe?) no doubt he will be good but for that long...?
rick nash is at 7.8 cap hit too... are the rangers just trying to sell the game of hockey with big names and talk about 1994 stanley cup win like it was yesterday?
So Cole Cassels' NHL contract was just rejected by the NHL.

NHL rejected Cole Cassels contract. Game played bonus is impossible to earn. Not enough games left this season to meet threshold. #canucks
So Cole Cassels' NHL contract was just rejected by the NHL.
Games Played bonus unattainable this year as it Cassels can't play in the NHL until after his OHL team's season is over. Has to be redone.
No word on Twitter yet whether or not there will be any circumvention penalties. Likely small fine at most.

Can anybody explain this, the circumventing component?
As I understand, ELC don't kick in until after 9 NHL games are played. The minimum games played for bonuses look like 42. What's the benefit in circumventing the cap, for $212k potential cap space, when Cassels in all likelihood won't play this season? Gillis is shrewd and even a cheap-ass mofo, but I'm not seeing it personally. Maybe part of a sign and trade scenario, but I can't imagine Cassels' trade value to be really worth much at this point
And if MG was trying to pull a fast one, which is not out of the ordinary, Cassels' agent should have caught it

Basically, bonuses only apply within the first 3 years of the contract and, if the player doesn't play in the NHL for at least 10 games, the main salary slides, but the potential bonuses do not.
Since the 3rd year of the deal would no longer have bonuses, it circumvents the CBA and the NHLPA likely took issue with it. It would not save any cap space unless that bonus were achieved.
The Canucks will have to re-do the contract without the bonus or wait until after the Canucks' season is over to sign him.
not just directed at you Big Earl, but this 'clutch and legit' shit is getting old

^thanks, I'm really curious if this 'circumventing' was just an oversight or if there was actual intent behind it. Why the sudden rush to have Cassels signed right now...

. I think it was mainly timing. He's out of the lineup right now with a minor injury after having played very well and the Canucks have a few days off on the tail end of an Eastern road trip.
Anyways, according to @vancanucks, the error has been rectified and Cassels has an NHL-approved contract now.
Pay money to get a shitty view and freeze your ass off. Or watch the game on my lovely couch with central heating. Tough choice.
some people like to be part of something special, some people would rather watch on tv
goto new york for the NYE count down, or foreveralone on your couch watching it on the news
Looks like the news of TSN losing the NHL has lead to them laying off their editors.

With the NHL having paid Wayne Gretzky the remaining funds owed to Wayne Gretzky from the Phoenix Coyotes, the rumours of his next NHL destination are in full swing.
And they're pointing to the NHL's biggest market: Toronto.
With Gretzky paid out for what is believed to be $7 to 8 million, Gretzky may be eager to get back into the NHL
