Probably didn't re-sign Lapierre to help improve the team's image around the league. Posted via RS Mobile
I think it has to do with Kellan Lain. No one talks about the kid but he's the most likely reason Max Lapierre no longer has a place here. Big centre, hits, plays solid defense.

Lain looks like a dman
At 6'6 and 222 pounds, kid looks like an absolute beast.
The Leafs buyout Mikhail Grabovski. Leafs have so much cap space now. Makes me think, they make a big splash tomorrow. They could get even more gritty if they get go after players like Clarkson, Filppula. Also Stephen Weiss could be a fit there.
Meanwhile, Canucks have little money to do much of anything.

Leafs intend to buy out Grabovski. Not happy about this as he is a guy who works hard every shift. He was supposedly dealing with an illness last season and his production dropped. What kills me is that 2 seasons ago Burke could have got a 1st for him. Nonis wanted to pull the trigger but Burke insisted on holding on to him. No we get nothing. If this was done to over pay for Bozak, I will be even less please.
I really liked Grabovski in the rotten ronnie days. He played pretty hard against boston. Sure he did not score any goals, but the effort is definitely there.
It did not help that his line was used as a shutdown line in Carlyle's system (remember, 2nd line is shutdown line). He kind of doesn't fit in Carlyle's system- He's an offensive goal-oriented player who will be outplayed by Kadri (who played the sheltered third line). Grabovski has scored 58 points- However, that was when he played 19 minutes per game (first line minutes but not first line). tl;dr: It looks like Kadri will be the go-to offensive guy while Bolland will replace his shutdown duties. I really hope they do not resign Bozak to a 4mil deal. He's really worth 2-3mil (good face-off skills, some defensive acumen, but I will dispute you tooth and nail if you say he has good offense). I really wanted to see Grabo play one more year.
I'm stoked at the talent we got at this year's draft.. Horvat/Shinkaruk/Subban.. but I'm more stoked at us grabbing Hunter with the 24 pick (such a steal). He looked very excited to be a part of the team as well which is great to see. I'm glad CGY was gonna snatch him up too

There is a reason Hunter Shinkaruk dropped at the draft on Sunday. His defensive game is bad. He isn't big or strong. It is really hard (impossible) to make a claim that teams made a mistake by passing on him. Way too early.
Shinkaruk could be the next Zach Parise, who dropped for size-related reasons. Or he could be the next Angelo Esposito, who also dropped down the list in his respective draft year. My point - it is simply way too early to say teams made a mistake by passing on him. He is among the few players I have actually seen from this draft class, and I really liked what I saw. But I can't compare him to many of the guys who were taken immediately before him, as I haven't seen them enough to really offer a full and complete opinion. - Jeff Angus

The possibility of a "bust" will always be there for rookies but to get someone like him and his offensive talents at 24th? Steal! now we just wait and see.
Sonick is a genius. I won't go into detail what's so great about his post. But it's damn good!
