I think everyone complaining about the hockey game on both sides are being little bitches. This is hockey, the toughest and hardest hitting sport in the world, where fighting is allowed and welcomed by 90% of fans.

no doubt about it hockey is one of the toughest and hardest hitting sports...but maybe the 2nd compared to american football

Football has bigger individual plays but I think the punishment a hockey player takes throughout a season far outweighs the NFL

I am not so sure if Football is harder hitting. The players may be bigger but football's speed is limited to running, whereas I would think you can go faster and carry more momentum through a hit on skates.

That hit in the gif doesn't seem much different than an open ice hit when a forward has his head down and gets lined up.

also take into consideration that skates dig into the ground harder than cleats to get a good position for a hit. Compare your landing surface as well...turf.... or ice, glass(which actually helps), stanchions, and players benchboards which dont help.

Now skill wise, both sports require a lot. Hockey players skate on the ice for 1 minute shifts skating at up to 25 miles per hour. Football players have to stay on the field but get time in between plays to rest. Football has 6 more positions then hockey players on offense. Each position has a certain job they have to do. Wide receivers have to run routes be able to catch the ball and run. For hockey players every player on the ice has to be able to pass the puck, be able to shoot and be able to skate and be smart. There are more positions in football but require greater detail than hockey. But each hockey player has to be able to do the same thing as every other player on the ice.

football players take helmet to helmet all the time, which is the equivalent of getting crosschecked into a face. for example, anquan boldin fractured his nose and was knocked unconscious by a hit from eric smith

getting slammed into a board is the equivalent of getting hit by a linebacker

lets be real, every hockey game there is one, maybe two big hits. every play in the nfl can be potentially a big hit. and you can't even get hit if you're not carrying the puck in the nhl whereas everyone gets hit on every play during football

Both sports are rough as hell but as far as long term damage goes I'd think football is worse. I'd hate to be an ex NFL player in my later years.

Yes in the long run I'd probably agree Football takes a larger toll on the body than Hockey.

But when strictly speaking for hits only, I'd say Hockey's are bigger.
