I always wonder when a individual on a team like that gets suspended if Aqualini just cuts him a check or somthing Posted via RS Mobile
I too wonder this as well. Not so much a cheque, but other "perks".
For instance- Kellan Lain plays 2 seconds, gets ejected in front of his parents who were flown out (either on Lain's or Canuck dollar) to see his first NHL game. In this example, I wonder if Lain was given a "gift" or something by Francesco to apologize. Especially since the parents were flown out to see such a debacle.
If I was playing for the Canucks and my coach did this for meand my team, I would have all the players chip in cash and make up for Tort's lost salary.
We all thought this was going to be the year the Oilers turned the corner. Obviously, that hasn’t happened, and it hurts. It’s frustrating – for all of us. For our fans, for our players and staff, and for everyone in our community who shares a common bond around a game, a team and a city that we love.
I know this will almost certainly be the eighth consecutive year since we made the playoffs. I hate that fact as much as anyone, but the reality is that this is only year four of the rebuild that started when we drafted Taylor Hall. The good news, if you can call it that, is that other teams that committed to fundamental rebuilds went through the same kind of droughts over the same kind of time frames, or longer. That doesn’t make it fun for anyone; it just means we have to stay the course.
Yes, we hoped and expected to be better this year – there’s no question about that. But we’ve also been more active than any team I can think of in rebuilding our organization from bottom to top by supporting player development in OKC and Bakersfield, revamping our scouting organization, naming a new GM and a new coach, signing free agents like Justin Schultz, Boyd Gordon, Andrew Ference, Anton Belov and Ilya Bryzgalov, and trading for players like David Perron, and now Ben Scrivens and Matt Hendricks. And we’re not done.
But I can also tell you that we are not going to sacrifice the future by doing something short-term. Those days are over and they’re not coming back. If we’re going to rebuild, we want to do it right and we only want to do it once.
I hear a lot from fans about accountability, so let’s be clear. We are all accountable. That includes me, Kevin, Craig, Dallas, every player who wears our jersey, and every member of our staff. I know Kevin is the target of a lot of personal attacks right now, and that’s really unfortunate. Kevin is a big part of our organization, and it’s not just the Oilers that value his knowledge and perspective. He is consistently chosen, year after year, to play a leadership role with Hockey Canada. But when it comes down to it, this is Craig MacTavish’s team. He is the GM. He makes the calls, and he is accountable for building a team that can compete for the Stanley Cup -- year in and year out for years to come.
That’s our vision. We are committed to it -- and we’re confident that we are on the right track.
Our fans have been incredibly patient and supportive. At the same time, we know there’s a lot of frustration and we are asking you to hang in there while we fight through this and put the next few pieces of the team in place.
I’ll tell you this, despite everything, we all wear our Oilers colours with the same pride now as we ever have, and as we will when we’re back on top. We hope you’ll do the same.
We value our fans, we hear you, and we appreciate your support.
Daryl Katz
Coilers maybe it's time the NHL set a limit to how many 1st overalls you can get within a certain time frame

Why isn't Hartley Suspended for being an instigator!?
Instead of suspending the coach for taking care of his team, suspend Hartley for causing the problem.
The League needs to look at the Coaches, one coach sends there goons, a reaction who be to protect their stars and send our goons in return.
+1. Hartley puts Torts in a tough position by sending out his goons. Heck, if I was in Torts' situation, I would send out Sestito and our other goons to defend our top players.
Sometimes it's hard in the heat of the moment to control your emotions when you know that the douchebag standing behind the other bench is trying to bully your team. If it was AV facing this situation, maybe he just stands behind the bench and continue to chew that bubble gum.
We're Canucks, we take no bullshit from thugs! Nobody pushes this team around!

No, you shut the fuck up. You're just butt hurt because your team is going down in flames. If it weren't for that avatar of yours, you'd be flamed, too. J/k........
Wow, six games without pay? That's pretty much six games and a fine/loss of salary of $50k (assuming torts makes $750k)?
How much does Torts make?
NHL employees on salary get paid by the day over the course of the regular season. This season there are 195 days, so Tortorella will sacrifice 15/195 (7.7%) of his rumoured $2M/year salary (US$153,846.15) for his actions.
Now, when players get fined, it goes towards the NHLPA's reserve funding (which will undoubtedly provide players with healthy paycheques during the next lockout). What happens to the money when coaches get fined?

Owner would most likely compensate Torts, somehow.
It's too bad Bettman has no reason to come to Vancouver, 'cause if he did, he'd be heckeled/harrassed out of the arena. At the last Winter Olympics in Vancouver, I was surprised at the amount of heckling he got. It was noticeable, but not nearly as much as anticipated. I think this time around, maybe at the classic game, if he has the balls to show up, the fans will heckle him until he is forced to leave. Chants of "bullshit, bullshit, bullshit."
Who are they gonna fine and suspend? The fans?

Force CS&E to put all Canucks games on PPV, double ticket prices.
you do know he has more money from like... past coaching gigs right.... Posted via RS Mobile
I know he has savings, but losing a $150k of your salary is pretty significant. Could you imagine losing 7.5% of your salary. I'm sure it would affect anyone.
And i'm not sure if Francesco would step in at all. He's a business man first. He's not just going to give away $150k for something that Torts shouldn't have done in the first place. Or maybe he would. I could see him not stepping in at all though.
