a snippet from Canucks prospect Hunter Shinkaruk recovers in the desert sun Quote:
Sunscreen aside, Shinkaruk is pleased with the early stages of his rehab.
“I’m really surprised with how well I feel right now,” said Shinkaruk, 19. “I can walk normally now and if you saw me walk, you wouldn’t realize that I just had hip surgery. It’s been like that for a week now. Most of my rehab is done in the pool. I have a kind of suit that I wear that keeps me floating a little bit so I’m never putting 100 per cent of my weight on the hip, or stressing the bone.”
Shinkaruk had a tear of the labrum on his left side and his operation, performed by Dr. Marc Philippon in Vail, Colo., took four-and-a-half hours. The normal rehab period is four to six months.
“My hip hasn’t felt this good for quite a few years,” said Shinkaruk. “I’ve had a problem with it for a little bit and, last summer, I did a lot of work on it and it felt great, but then it got a little bit worse in that Portland game on Oct. 23. Every day I wake up now, my hip feels better than the day before. Dr. Philippon has given me a protocol to follow and it’s been going unbelievable. I’m really surprised with how well I feel.”
Shinkaruk expects he will be flying around by next fall when the Canucks open their 2014 training camp. He is a creative, offensive player and, Lord knows, would be a welcome addition to Vancouver’s lineup if his junior numbers translate to the NHL. Shinkaruk had 86 goals and 177 points in his last two full junior seasons.
“It’s really nice that I have quite a bit of time to get recovered 100 per cent,” he said. “There is no question in my mind that when camp opens I’ll be more than ready to go and that I’ll be a better player than I was last year. That’s definitely exciting.”

Just for shits and googles...
in the last 10 years:
Calgary lost game 7 in the finals
got knocked out in round 1 for 4 years in a row, and have missed the playoffs for 4 years now, and will miss this year
Edmonton lost game 7 in the finals
has not made the playoffs since, and will miss this year
Ottawa lost in the finals
have alternated between missing the playoffs and getting knocked out in the first round since, aside from making into the second round last year, and looks like they will miss this year
Philly lost in the finals
have been knocked our early or swept in round 2 and missed the playoffs last year, and looks like they will miss this year
The Canucks, as we know, lost in game 7 of the finals
have lost in the first round 2 years since but should make the playoffs this year
New Jersey lost in the finals
missed the playoffs the following year and looks like they will miss this year
Only Boston, Pits, and Detroit have continued to play well after getting knocked out in the finals. And all 3 have won a cup within 2 years

Let's look at Detroit and Boston
Has a majority of their core. But has 20somethings the organization isn't afraid to inject into the line up. Krug in boston? Smith in well..both Riley and Branden. Their future is ready. This Retool will happen next year when hopefully. All those kids are ready to go. U just hope that the twins and kes are ready to lead.
If you think about it. The transistion from the WCE days were similar in which the twins, kes, juice and edler were ready to compete.
I have faith in this team. I haven't really though about the panic button yet

"It's about youth. Other than the Sedin twins, I think all bets are off for almost any other player on that roster."
"Alexander Edler on defence will get a lot of interest, probably after the Olympic break."
"Interesting times ahead, in my opinion, in Vancouver."

Nothing to see here. Ceci admits he turned, Kadri hit him from the side and says he let up.
from hfboards Quote:
Ceci intentionally turned his back on the play.
Ceci: "I just kind of showed my back a bit hoping he'd slow up and ended up face first in the boards and then they scored right on the play"
Kadri hit him from the side. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bfb1z_4IUAAp_Jm.jpg
He couldn't stop because he was already committed to the hit and was in motion.
Not a penalty either.
43.1 Checking from Behind
A check from behind is a check delivered on a player who is not aware of the impending hit, therefore unable to protect or defend himself, and contact is made on the back part of the body. When a player intentionally turns his body to create contact with his back, no penalty shall be assessed.
41.1 Boarding
A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently in the boards. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.
There is an enormous amount of judgment involved in the application of this rule by the Referees. The onus is on the player applying the check to ensure his opponent is not in a defenseless position and if so, he must avoid or minimize the contact.
However, in determining whether such contact could have been avoided, the circumstances of the check, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the check or whether the check was unavoidable can be considered. |

from hfboards | Where did you read from Ceci's quote did he say Kadri let up? Ceci said he had hoped that Kadri would let up but that certainly wasn't the case.

Kadri claimed during his post game interview that he let up on the hit. He also said that Ceci turned at the last second prior to getting hit. Posted via RS Mobile |

Not saying Kadri is a liar but of course he is going to say Ceci turned at the last second. Cover his ass.
Looking at the video, it doesn't look like it.

Ceci said he hoped Kadri would slow down and turned his back to him. Bad move kid.

from hfboards | He didn't turn immediately prior to the hit. Should've been a 2-minute minor.
Not that it really mattered. Would've waived off a goal, yes, but Toronto would've ended up with a 4-on-3 PP out of it as the 2 Sens would've got roughing penalties.
Toronto won 6-3.

I met John Garrett at the Toronto airport the other day, he was catching a flight to Detroit to meet the team. Was pretty random to run into him considering I was in buttfuck nowhere boonies for the Pearson airport waiting for my flight on Jazz. Hes a nice guy, introduced himself as soon as I mentioned I recognized him. Chatted about the Canucks for a bit then boarded my flight.

C'ya Dale. Looks like our defensive injuries are probably more serious than expected. Or maybe a precursor trade to another d-man on the move? Quote:

#Canucks have acquired defenceman Raphael Diaz from Montreal in exchange for Dale Weise. Formal announcement to follow.
