Yah, removing Don Cherry and/or Coach's Corner... while I personally generally roll my eyes at most of what is said on their segment, would probably be one of the most unpopular things CBC could ever do with pretty much most of Canada... I'm looking at you rural areas... lol
I so guess it's because he shat on Luongo for his sleazeball tweets trolling the team he just left? Yeah I agree 100% with Don on that. I wanted to mention it, but people here get really upset when you bring up anything negative about Luongo, making discussion impossible. I don't want to make it seem like I am trolling for a reaction, so I didn't say anything. Luckily Don said all I ever needed to say, and I guess now people want CBC to fire him because of it? Yeah, like I said
I have no issue with Luongo's tweets. It should be clear by now that he has a sarcastic sense of humor and, while they were not in the best of taste, I see them as merely a reflection of it. I don't think they were intended to be trolling or offensive in any sense. In fact, it's been reported that Luongo texted Lack that evening to ensure they were not taken in that way. Also, let's keep in mind, Luongo tweeted his gratitude to the Canucks and his respect and personal affection for Lack just two days prior.
I'm not complaining, because I always think it's always better when athletes are entertaining on and off the ice/field/whatever. However those tweets were tasteless (which is why they were funny) and unprofessional. If he had to text Lack and apologize later, that means he feels bad for what he wrote, and saw the need to ensure things were not taken the wrong way (basically it's like adding a troll face to the end of a post here, I guess).
He may have paid lip service in a tweet to the Canucks after jumping ship (after being paid $60 million by them, I guess that's the least that can be expected) but I think the remarks and tweets afterward are more true to his line of thinking most likely.
I'm sure the Canuck players got a laugh out of it and thought it was Lu being Lu more than the media spun it into somthing negative Posted via RS Mobile
I don't think really anyone is calling for Cherry to be fired or removed because of what he said about Lu. There has been a lot of people calling for Cherry to be fired now for years, granted its mostly people in the 20-35 range age group. He's just out of touch with the times now and continuously makes factual mistakes.
I get that there are still a large portion of areas of Canada (rural areas) and older population (40+) that love and tune in to watch Cherry, but personally and in my social circle, we all turn the channel when Cherry comes on.
I'm actually looking forward to this Rogers takeover of NHL coverage in Canada (would have been happy too with Bell (TSN)), IMO CBC coverage has been going down hill every year for as long as I can remember, aside from their playoff montages, the production quality is just horrible.

Its been mentioned already that Luongo called Eddie after the game was done to make sure he is OK and all the other support crap he's been telling eddie
HNIC is Rogers property for the next 4 seasons BECAUSE the Feds wouldn't contribute more tax money to allow CBC to get in on the action.
HNIC will go back to CBC at the end of 4 seasons with the option to lease broadcasting rights from Rogers (or re-negotiate the lease of the HNIC programming to Rogers)
