Not hating on the sedins, but any GM would take mcdavid over both sedins any day. Considering that they got a couple years left and their production is spiralling downwards.
Should consider trading sedins for connor mcdavid...now that's a rebuild.
By the time McDavid steps foot on NHL ice, the Sedins will be 35 ...
No way will a team that drafts first overall trade that pick, possibly the next Crosby, for a pair of 35-year-olds who are on pace for less than 55 points as 33-year-olds.
If NYI gets the pick. They wouldn't be too bad with Tavares Okposo, Sedin Sedin, Nielsen Bailey. Pretty solid two lines
*obviously i didn't crunch the numbers but don't they have cap space?
It's some the islanders would do too!
Wang is cheap as fuck. If he can pay a player $925,000/year for 3 years instead of paying two players $14,000,000/year for 3 years, he'll take the cheaper player every time.
The sedins have one shitty year with both of them being hurt and everyone things they are done... Lets see what next year bring and then we will see if they still have it or not.
All those tandems play so much tougher all you do is pound the shit out of the Sedins and they are invisible. This isn't just a "this year" thing, this is the last two playoff appearances. Posted via RS Mobile

And, they're getting older. Me thinks they are trying to play tougher, but it doesn't come naturally. We are stuck with them until something drastic happens.
Perhaps with all the injuries, the noobs and nobody's step it up and the team gells. Teamwork wins championships, not individual players. Count on individual players (the stars) and it can get you only so far. This is also where the coach can make a difference. Playoffs are a whole new season - ya never know.
Gawd, I'm so optimistic.

i can see the sedins on just for the PP primarily since they cant hack it 5on5 anymore
but the hope is that jensen and the rest of the kids (guance, horvat, shinkaruk, kassian) can quickly take the mantle
we need a young playmaking centre now

I don't think they're done, personally. But, let's face it, there's no chance in hell they're worth a McDavid at this stage of their careers (especially taking this season into account).
I think they can still be solid 60+ point players if they have someone on their line who can score. The days of 100+ points from them are almost assuredly over especially with the lack of penalties being called now relative to 2005-2011. Their bread and butter is along the boards and, with the lack of obstruction calls, they're much less effective.

Toews and Kane rarely play together at even strength ...
the game has evolved to a more "big and heavy hitting game" If the sedins can not adapt the passing skills with that, they will not survive.
It was spectacular watching both of them play, especially the last game of the season vs calgary a few years ago. They can do things where no one has done before..... rare sight these days. Reminds me of Bure, I highly doubt anyone will have the same technique of speed skating and brain passing.
edit: anyone know which clip im talking about? the back no look back to a goal?

Sedins were never about speed. The only speed they showed was their ability to think the game and process potential plays at ice level. In their prime they were absolute chess-masters. They were always steps ahead of the defensive coverage.
You have a great point though- If they can get away from thinking so defensive (aka the Torts Effect), I think they can still be relevant if they can figure out a way to get back to a passing game. Defensive schemes can be spread with precision passing, a thing that the Sedins were most notorious for. Unfortunately for us, it's not apparent whether they can get back to that style of play. As a huge Sedin fan, I'm really hoping they can bounce back next year.
Sedins are great. Appreciate them while they're here. They do stuff on the ice that a lot of your comparisons can only dream of. Truly gifted athletes.
That being said, if you can't beat them in the alley, you can't beat them on the ice for the Stanley Cup.

I don't think Chicago got that memo last year (or in 2010).
