I wonder what Linden's "short list" of potential GM candidates would look like.
Here's my list:
Lawrence Gilman. Hire internally.
Jim Benning. Assistant GM for Boston. Trevor is gonna have to wait a while to interview this guy because of the playoffs.
Paul Fenton. Assistant GM for Nashville.
Jim Nill. Assistant GM for Detroit. -15 years of experience as assistant GM with Detroit. -great draft record. -helped the Red Wings win four Stanley Cups.
Ron Hextall: Assistant GM, Kings. -helped Lombardi build a Cup winning team.

lol did you take that off a website?
we could've had Jim Nill last April, look at the job he's done in Dallas.
I still feel strong about Paul Fenton and I like Jim Benning.
Or we could just talk David Poile into coming here
Not sure about Hextall though, he's only been part of the Flyers for a year, not counting the earlier years. Don't think he would jump ship after just a year especially since he's with an organization he's got a lot of history with.
Wonder if he would keep Roland Melanson as goalie coach since he's a goalie himself.

^he's been pissy lately. A kid knocked his helmet looking for a fist-bump last week and he ended up shoving him. Must be stressed out that his annual meltdown is around the corner.
If I'm going to pick a Stanley Cup winner on Playnow.com, is it better to do it now, or later?

I'm more excited to see what progress he can make after an off-season with Rollie.
Given the leaps-and-bounds improvement in Lack's game coming off of hip surgery, I'm guessing that someone with a bit more natural talent (based on previous career) like Markstrom would be able to reap more benefits. And also considering Markstrom's age, we're basically allotted a couple of years before we can expect to see whether he's number-1-goalie material. Let's not forget Cory Schneider didn't really get thought of as elite until he was about 26. That's 2 years from now for Markstrom.
Plus he's so damn huge. Given his pedigree it wouldn't be too surprising imo if he turned out like Mike Smith, or more recently, Ben Bishop.
speaking of, poor schneids... 16-15-11, but GAA 2.00 and .919 lol
his contract expires after next year i think? hope he comes back here if markstrom doesn't work out
Well at that point it would just be money right? The Canucks didn't exactly burn the bridge with him, and actually gave him something he wanted which was a number 1 job.
Those numbers equate to 6+M a year if you look at comparables. I'm not sure that's where the Canucks at this point would like to spend their cap dollars given the age of the forward core. Might as well "slum it" with Lack and Markstrom for the foreseeable future and spend the money up front. And it's not like Lack played horrible this season. The team in front of him was in shambles, but you can clearly see the potential there with Lack and what he can provide the team.
But there's no harm in hoping that Cory comes back lol
I have confidence in Lack as a regular season goalie.
He's not proven yet in the playoffs, but who knows if we'll even have to worry about that next season...
Spend the money to get some depth in legit skaters. Still waiting for top 6 fwd.
Any time now, hopefully before the Sedin's revert to 2nd line players again.

The Lack/Markstrom combo gives us cap flexibility and youth. The 2 of them make a combined <2.5M caphit next year, which is just over half of what we were paying Schneider by himself; include Lu's 15% pay out and we still come out ahead. A Schneider in his prime right now would be a waste with where the rest of the team is currently at and their ability to win anything worthwhile.

I kinda hope Dane Fox would produce similar results in the AHL next season.
Ppl giving him too much crap saying he's older in juniors right now.
He's not big, but he's very strong. Only 6'0" 185 lbs apparently. Could see him having trouble adapting to the pro game as he's able to outmuscle a lot of juniors and he won't be able to do that in the pros at his size.

That could be said about any junior though. Its all about training and development.
