^ it was part of the Fox interview.
Aquaman has a lot to do with the contract for sure. He wanted to circumvent the cap, Gillis wasn't down but guess who signs the cheques.
We're living some serious Canucks history. People are going to talk about the Luongo fiasco for years to come. Cup or no Cup, it will go down as one of the, if not the biggest clusterfucks in Canucks history.

Although in the end, the Linden trade was for the best.

Hard to say..
Was Linden the greatest Canucks player ever? Nope. But you can't question his heart.
Was Luongo the greatest Canucks goalie ever? Yep. But you can question his ability to be clutch in big games.
That being said, goalies are under so much scrutiny. Many times when players don't perform, it goes unnoticed. When a goalie fucks up, he's under the microscope.

He got lazy and complacent when he became a made man. The franchise gave everything but their left nut for this guy. You want a big pay day? Done! You want prestige? You're the captain! You want to feel like this is "your" team? Come to the 2009 draft and we'll clear all our managerial decisions through you!. Even though for the most part, that was for show, there's no doubt what the franchise was willing to give this guy.
The problem is... he played himself out of #1 fair and square. His play put the question mark on management as to who they're better off going forward into the future: Luongo or Schneider?
And let's face it, its not like there was just a one or two year anomaly in his declining play. 'til this day, we're still hoping he can be the same guy we centered this team around, but 2006 is a long long long way away already.
In a way, I can't really put this on the Aquilini's. They're not just hockey team owners, they're shrewd business owners as well. They have one rising asset, and one declining asset. GMMG refused to deal him because he believed Lu's stock will only raise when PO fringe teams of last year will be painted into a corner needing a goalie before trade deadline.
Plain and simple, he was wrong. If you get past the name Luongo (which used to carry so much weight around the league - remember this is the guy that threatened he'll leave NHL if they dared increase net sizes), you really have a goalie nobody wants, and no player really fears anymore.
Aquilini was on the money with his assessment. GMMG was not. Now they're stuck with a goalie they did not want and now GMMG has to backtrack and make it seem to everyone that Luongo was "our" guy all along and the end result was the best result for us.

I missed this post as I was typing my other.
That's only a partially correct statement; at least for our current era. The scrutiny has a cascading effect.
Luongo isn't always under heavy scrutiny simply because he's the "goalie." He's under heavy scrutiny because he is one of the top earners in the team.
His price tag was $8M (but luckily we got him for $5M due to cap circumventing techniques). When you're asking that kind of dough, there's expectations that come along with that price - and this phenomenon isn't just specific to Luongo - it's all around the league; it's true for others within the team as well. Take a look at the Sedins now... take a look at Kesler. They're starting (if not already) to share equal spotlight in the scrutiny.

Lu's contract from now until he's 39-40 (assuming he can still play like he does now) isn't bad cap hit wise at $5.3M when you look at the salaries people are paying for their #1 Goalies.
It's just bad from age 41-43 or if he retires early. Hopefully the cap will rise uber high by then and it wouldn't matter.

After looking at the cap issue seems more like Kassian will be our 2nd RW and Schroeder as our 2nd C. Richardson-Santorelli-Weise as 4th
With the possibily Higgin-Kesler-Hansen playing shutdown role on the 3rd line, best shut down line in the NHL? |

I'd rather
Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Kesler Jensen/Kassian
Higgins Gaunce Kassian/Jensen
Richardson Santorelli Hansen

Yes... we all rather but Schroeder has better hockey IQ than Kesler (no pass kesler). Schroeder cant do much on the 3rd where as on the 2nd he has offensive upside which can rack up points.
Other than that, Canucks still look like a contender |

Other than that, Canucks still look like a contender | Kesler had 50 assists in 2009-2010
Schroeder is Andrew Ebbett

@rask rumors.... guy proved hes elite status in the playoffs this year so I guess he's WAY more proven than Schnoo...single handedly kept the Bs in it in a quite a number of games...quite nice to have Chara as well
schnoo will get even more when the cap goes up granted he can do the same Posted via RS Mobile |

I wouldn't go entirely against Schroeder being called the next Ebbett........... I don't know that he will ever stick on this team.
ala Hondaracer, anyone want to bet that Ebbett finishes his NHL career (if it's not already finished) with more points than Schroeder? |
