If I had $80k to buy a nice weekend car, I would have the following criteria:
powerful, and fun.

Why those criteria? Simple. Those put a smile on my face. When I step into my weekend car I want to be having fun. If the car is flashy that's a nice byproduct. But I'll have fun whenever I put the foot down and hear that throttle blip and that nice raspy downshift.

A lot of the people here have stated some nice cars. But I would actually want something not too flashy. Something subtle yet a sleeper. My choice would be the 2013 BMW M5. I know it's a little bit over $80k but maybe in a year or two or used, price will go down.

Why? It's refined and comfortable to drive in. Maintenance is not a bitch, it's not too flashy and poser. But it has to be in Frozen Blue.

I'm not even sure if you could buy a 432r for 80,000 nowadays, it's the rarest, most desirable, fastest trim level. Regular Z's usually don't venture over $15,000 unless it's a low numbers car, but that's starting to change as they get older.

An Austin Healey as pictured is probably one of the most iconic British cruisers of it's day, it runs along side Jaguar E-types, and they fetch 70-80,000 if they are in perfect condition.

The Alfa Romeo Montreal is just... an Alfa Romeo Montreal.

You could look at new cars all day long, but a properly selected classic to fit your bill will have the same impact and will probably be more enjoyable anyways. You would most likely stand out in a crowd of new Astons without looking like a Chav.

A 432 would be a helluva expensive ride indeed. But looking at OP's current car (an X5, of all things) and his desire for AM exclusively, these A/C less roof-less steel traps of death might be quite far from his comfort zone.

With that said, a Viper is probably pretty far out as well. :heckno:

Nothing screams "place vagina here" more than rolling up in a certifiable death trap with a cigar hanging out of your mouth and a chimpanzee on your shoulder.

i'm actully looking at vipers now. It seems that 2008+ is the one to have as they increased HP output to 600hp and revised the exhaust so the inside of the car doesn't feel like an oven.

Iceman-19 06-27-2013 01:16 PM

They are awful cars to drive, I wouldnt own one.

originalhypa 06-27-2013 01:19 PM

I've known three guys who died in Vipers.
Two since the birth of Facebook, because I have a pair of RIP's two years apart there.
No other car make can make that claim, not even close.

Vipers are awesome, but you need to be a bit of a snake charmer or that fucker will turn around and bite you in the ass.

Damn, I heard Vipers are hard to manage but that is crazy.
Depending on the year, 400-600 hp and no driving aids is a recipe for disaster I guess.

Vipers are awesome. Whenever I see one I know that the driver is probably a true car person.

Posers couldn't live with a Viper.

godwin 06-27-2013 02:00 PM

Tons of power, with smooth tires and minimal electronics usually don't bode well with our climate. I have driven the first 3 generations, I just find the window for great driving in town is so narrow, you end up having a garage queen.

Of the 3 generations, I prefer the first one. Just driving it is such a challenge... and every thing in there is such a POS you end up don't really care lets call it "character".

There are plenty of cars with 400hp+ with no driver aids but mind you they don't come out of the factory like that. People will still find a way to kill themselves no matter how much or little power and drivers aids there are. If you're going to drive like an idiot then be prepared to face the consequences.

I've heard that they are rather unstable to say the least.

almost forgot about this car.

talked to one of the gm sales guys i work with and they start about $60k for a base vette hard top.

its a good looking car imo.

godwin 06-27-2013 04:13 PM

It is stable for a RWD car. For the first gen, there is no ABS.. second gen is a bit better.. but at high speed you drop the anchor especially with very stock slick tires.. things tend to get messy.

As I had said, it is the tires that is both a feature and a curse.

Id spend it on a classic American or otherwise. Something that is rare and appreciating in value.

do you know who makes the viper?

Hehe 06-27-2013 05:00 PM

Why not go after US import?

With 80k usd(give or take) you can get a nice Porche GT2 from 03-05. Engine Sounds like a dream and incredibly fast/fun.

They are fairly reliable too. My friend still has one from 2001 and it's his DD. maintenance should be ok. 250 for oil change. But if you try to diy, parts are about 100 iirc. (Us price, hope cdn isn't far from that)

8xk and you got a Twin turbo, track-ready car

In a round-a-bout logical sense, Fiat.

Thus, Vipers are actually Euros.

;)

xpl0sive 06-27-2013 08:20 PM

and the v10 was originally developed by Lamborghini :)

More correctly, the engine was originally modified by Lamborghini. The Viper V10 began as an aluminum adaptation of a cast-iron Chrysler truck V10, not a bespoke component developed specifically for it.

sdubfid 06-27-2013 08:45 PM

Who owned Lamborghini then? Who owns Lamborghini now?

Mr. Lamborghinis death was probably caused by heart attack when his name was associated with an American 8L truck engine that only made 400hp

gonna go the complete opposite direction here.

i know you're eye ballin exotics and high powered monsters so you can get laid but.

my suggestion would be this:

http://www.mycarportal.net/wp-conten...-Raptor-01.jpg

a ford raptor is well below your budget new or used. you can do your weekend warrior shit with it and still cruise around town. its shit loads of fun and where the pavement ends it'll keep on goin.

if i had 80k to spend on a weekend car it'd be this with a few high powered rifles and cases of ammunition.

it'll be fun in all seasons and if you need more power you can supercharge it with a few other tidbits.

besides, if you need a nice car to get laid then well.... :ifyouknow:
