The world's fastest LTE network, that wont be coming to canada anytime soon

Twice as quick as 4G: World's fastest wireless network launches in South Korea... and you can download a movie in 40 seconds
SK Telecom Co launches super fast network that is 10 times faster than 3G
Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A is the first handset available for the LTE-Advanced network

South Korea's largest mobile operator is launching what it says is the world's fastest wireless network this week.
The LTE-Advanced network can download data at speeds twice as fast as 4G networks and 10 times faster than 3G services, according to SK Telecom Co.
With a transfer rate of 150 megabits per seconds, the network can download an 800 megabyte movie in just 43 seconds. This compares with around 80 seconds on the current LTE network.
The service will be initially available in Seoul and its suburbs.

GSA, an association of network suppliers, projects that LTE networks will be available in 87 countries by the end of 2013.
The LTE-Advanced technology, however, has room for improvement. While it boasts the fastest download speed, its upload speed is same as LTE networks at 37.5 mbps.
Currently EE (formerly known as Everything Everywhere) offers an LTE or 4G network with top speeds of 80Mbps in some cities.
The company has a next-generation CAT4 device that will deliver over 100Mbps on its double-speed network.
It will also be running a commercial trial of a network that can offer maximum speeds of up to 300Mbps in London later this year.

To accompany the launch of the world's first LTE-Advanced network, the world's largest smartphone manufacturer, Samsung Electronics, has released the Galaxy S4 LTE-A handset.
The smartphone is the first model produced to run on the country's super fast LTE-A network.
SK Telecom plans to roll out a total of 7 LTE-A compatible handsets in the second half of 2013, with LG Electronics also poised to launch similar smartphones for the network before 2014, according to South Korean news agency, Yonhap.

Is good and all . But I mean do we really need this speed? I am still using a HSPA on my cell phone and is good enough.

Rogers got LTE pretty fast (if I'm not mistaken one of the first providers in NA)
4G is plenty even for HD streams

Telus is actually capable of this at 90 percent of their cell sites. However it's not available to the public

IIRC it is a 4x4 MIMO setup.

LTE-A is not necessary, but improving on something is.

Enough of something just depends on the perceiver. IMO I have Rogers LTE and I think its not enough sometimes. Why you ask me I want more? Because I do and while I'm at it I have 6GB data every month so why not watch some Netflix on the bus or in class at blazing fast speeds. I would definitely enjoy this if it was available but wouldn't necessarily say I need it, if it's available I would want it.

Close. Rogers was the first Canadian provider to launch LTE. Bellus followed suit shortly after.

MetroPCS in the US was first to launch LTE in North America.

Knowing Rogers/Bell/Telus

This would probably be a separate data plan that costs an extra 20 bucks

I think you guys are hoping for the worse. I highly doubt it. The market in Canada is as competitive as ever (although it may not be transparent.) The one thing in North America is that providers are generally slow to launch certain services because they want to ensure a smooth roll-out and transition. That and their technology vendors have not been able to come up with a guaranteed solution yet.

You have to remember that LTE is still very new and everything you read about is simply theoretical. There isn't enough research and development out there to qualify the use of the technology. It's countries like South Korea who have a market and demand, and are willing to make bold risks at the cost of service quality to their market demographics. In the end, the scale of economy cannot be compared to NA.

lol, you guys are jelly. Once you go 4G you can't go back, but they need to improve the ping for sure. For now, it's good enough, but it still take time to load HD youtube movie.

LTE-A, realistically, will give you 50-60Mbps max, I guess that's more like it.

even telus is honest about their real speed, if you look through the speedtest database, most LTE around the world is ranged from 15 to 35Mbps.

Best I got on Rogers and Bellus is about 42Mbps which in my opinion is more than good enough.
