From using all types of brands all I can say is:
-A sharp blade > a dull one
-Don't cut into things that you shouldn't cut into (screws, nails, the cord, your hand etc.)
If you're just a handy at home type of guy you don't need to spend a whole lot on a skillsaw. I like having a plug in one just because I don't need to recharge my batteries and I get more cutting power.
Makitas are great, but cheaper brands can cut just as well.
