| VPD to replace their Crown Vic's with... Dodge Chargers
Yup, you read that right. The VPD will soon be rolling around town in a fleet of brand new Dodge Chargers. Quote:
You will soon see a new police car on the Vancouver streets.
Officers have been used to driving the traditional Ford Crown Victoria, but they will be replacing those as Ford has discontinued the car.
The department looked at many different vehicles as possibilities, and the winning vehicle was the Dodge Charger. It has a 3.6-litre engine, and features new safety features such as emergency lighting, and a ‘rumbler’ siren, which projects a deep baritone burst that can be used to attract attention at critical times.
The new car also called for a new design of their graphics.
Vancouver Police say the new Dodge fleet will be equipped with an idle-management program to reduce engine idle time while continuing to power the electronics and emergency equipment when the vehicle is on-scene at an emergency.
The switch to the new car means fuel consumption will be reduced by about 25%. Police say it will also reduce patrol fleet emissions by approximately 660 tonnes (32% reduction) per year when the fleet replacement is completed in 2017.
VPD Fleet at a Glance
the Vancouver Police patrol fleet is composed of 176 vehicles, which are predominantly Ford Crown Victoria Interceptors, both marked and unmarked
the average age of the patrol fleet is 5.5 years
the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors were discontinued by Ford in April
61 patrol vehicles are due for replacement by end of 2013
replacement was delayed to take advantage of new, more environmentally friendly, purpose-built technologies
entire patrol fleet of 176 due for replacement by 2017

carbon motors had a great idea, take money from the government to build a car to sell back to the government, pure fuckin genius.
VPD is getting V6 chargers though so still might have a chance to outrun them.

Taurus looks better than the Charger, imo. The crown Vic is way outdated...
there's no way the RCMP will adopt the black white scheme.. it's not integrated with their uniform or insignia

Personally I think the Taurus looks terrible as a police car, especially in white. It's a good car but it certainly doesn't make me fear being caught by one. At least the Charger looks relatively badass, especially in black.
Speaking of badass, I realize this is from Transformers but I think the VPD should have gone with this instead: |

why is that police cars are always American vehicle?
with exception of undercovered ones..
I think Big 3 have proven enough times how shitty they are, both products and managements.
They do legitimately have one of the worst reputations...yet police forces seem to continue to use American Big 3 vehicles.

Seems kind of useless, considering the fact that there are rarely any instances where the difference in power output between the two models would make a difference, seems like a fine waste of money to me!

The Washinton state patrol uses chargers, the back seat is fairly roomy and comfy.

The cops have them for the 1% when they really need them.

I've seen one or two completely black new Taurus parked at the VPD building a few times. Even has the push bars and light bar up top so its not a ghost car.
