Living in Melbourne, Australia

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to pick your well travelled brains I am moving to Melbourne and I have no clue about where to live. Some facts:

i. I will be working in the Central Business District.
ii. I will not be driving there for the first little while as I will not have a car.

Some people might just say to live in the CBD but I'm afraid of living in a place that has nothing going on (ie. Canary Wharf in London). Coming from Vancouver, I love what Kits and Yaletown and would look for something along those lines. Some things I would look for are:

i. Close proximity to tram stations.
ii. Great food scene (I love food and would like to be in a place where I can be a happy foodie).
iii. Good culture and community.

Any ideas and input would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks!
