AMS GT-R: 1/4 mile in 7.98 seconds Alpha Performance Runs 1,700-HP Nissan GT-R To Sub-8 Second 1/4 Mile: Video BY Jeff Glucker JEFF GLUCKER Jul 19, 2013 We often hear about the horsepower wars that are still taking place amongst a variety of automotive manufacturers. Only slightly lesser-known are the GT-R wars. This is a battle of a handful of aftermarket tuning companies that seek to push Godzilla to more and more amazing feats of speed. The latest salvo has been fired by Alpha Performance. This company produces a Nissan GT-R that pumps out 1,700 horsepower at the wheels. That's enough power to send this hulked-out two door down the 1320 in less than eight seconds. Think about what you could accomplish in that time. Not much, right? The Alpha GT-R will have hit a trap speed of 186 mph and flicked past the lights in just 7.894 seconds. That's actually a substantial amount under eight seconds, really. The world of drag racing is measured in thousandths of a second. You want some more numbers on this car? It will hit 100 mph in a tick over three seconds, can get to 200 mph in less than 12 seconds, and set a world GT-R speed record by running 214 mph in just 1/2 a mile. This car is a purpose-built beast that's well suited to the straight-line task at hand. In the video above, you can see that the digital speedo only gets up to around 178 miles per hour. That's because the AMS-tuned GT-R is so fast that it out accelerates the gauges... that's fast, folks. |
