what to look for when purchasing a used genesis coupe?
 

Ok I need a little help. I'm looking to get a used genisis coupe. I found one with 31k on it and it apparently is a 2.0t r spec. But it's auto. From what I understood is that r specs were made for mt only? Am I wrong? Its got blue calipers instead of red and its hard to say if they are brembos in the pic. Can the brembos come in blue too?

what else should I be looking for when it comes to knowing if its an r spec? Ots a surrey dealership so I wanna make sure I'm covering all my basis.

Are there any known issues at around the 31000km range that I should be checking for? I want to ask if I can take it to a Hyundai dealership and get a full inspection there.

Sorry.I know nothing about the Hyundai's. Only Infiniti's.

Take it to a Hyundai dealer for an inspection. If the dealer seems hesitant or tries to convince you not to, walk away.

brembos only come red
r-specs only come in manual
the manual trans is known to have problems, there is a 100+ page thread on gencoupe

Red flag #1. R-Specs and Track package gen coupes only came in 6mt.

Red flag #2. Brembos on gen coupes are red. I'd say stay away from this one if you're looking for a R-spec.

Do you mind posting a picture of this Genesis Coupe? Especially the blue calipers? That way we can accurately tell you what you are dealing with. Going by your description, we can't really take it as concrete info.

one dead give away is the interior
i think r-specs only come with red/black seats
also the r-specs have 19" wheels

Jc thats the one. I want to go see it and check the car fax, since he is lying and if the car fax is clean then I could get a good deal. Im not looking for an r spec, right now I have a 2011 journey rt with no bluetooth. Im going back to school full time and this would be really good on gas.looking to trade in the dodge and get either cash back or extended warranty.

I would be extra careful with dealerships like that. Make sure to do an inspection. They lied once. They will likely lie again.

R Spec comes in MT only and cannot have leather unless it was custom upholstered by a third party company.

Definitely gonna bring my mechanic and get it fully inspected. If everything checks out and of I can get it lower price then this is a steal considering the km and year. Plus I finally get to be back in a coupe!

i got my 2012 premium a/t for 21.5k before taxes with 5.5k km
there was another one that was a 2012 premium m/t at a dealership with 11k km for the same price when i bought mine

Ad seems shady with all those errors in the content... I'd still check it out though, could end up getting a killer deal. Hope you're not expecting a real gas saver though....

I'm not familiar with Hyundai cars but that ad looks shady as f*ck. I would definitely look elsewhere.

im actually thinking it over now, looking at the pricing for a 2013 3.8 gt with the sale right now plus the trade in value of my dodge, that might be a better route.

canada didn't have an R Spec trim until the 2013 models came out, which is when they scrapped the GT trim. 2010-2012 canadian genesis coupes only come in base, premium and GT, regardlesa of engine size. the one you're looking at is just a premium with some painted stock wheels and a bumper

i bought my motorcycle from king of cars. long story short, stay away from them. friendly up front all the way to the sale, then they disappear.

shitty used car dealership logic:
"hmm this car has some coooool aftermarket stuff, lets call it a r spec!, type r!, gt! Performance edition!!!"

well this escalated quickly, i went to openroad hyundai to speak to the service manager about my gf's elantra limited over an issue with the backup camera. then i saw the sales guy who sold her the car (very nice guy), spoke to him about the ad and about the pricing and options for the 2013 model.

well, tomorrow im putting the order for a grey exterior, black interior 3.8gt with the new 8 speed auto. comes fully loaded with the brembo calipers and getting the staggered quad axle back exhaust too.

drove the MT version today, man does that bitch have kick! but i need the auto for the commute
