As part of the CRTC’s new ‘wireless code’ the carriers are mandated to adopt a 2-year wireless contract option. So far we’ve seen Bell, TELUS, Rogers and Fido come to the table with the necessary changes, plus they’ve already adjusted the monthly rate plans and hardware subsidy pricing. We’ve now received WIND Mobile’s slight adjustment to their WINDTab option.

Straight from the internal doc, the new structure is called the “24 Month Pay Off Promise” and will be effective August 8th. It’s basically the same as the 3-year WINDTab, but now “customers that sign-up for a WINDtab will have any remaining WINDtab balance cleared by WIND, at no additional cost, after 24 months have passed.” WIND also notes that this new direction is only good for those who activate after August 8th, any current customers “will continue to receive the original 3 Year Pay Off Promise.”

Finally, WIND takes a jab at the incumbent carriers in the doc and states that “Unlike the competition, WIND’s new 24 Month Pay Off Promise has not resulted in more expensive monthly plans, or arbitrary “TAB Repayment” fees.”

Look for the “24 Month Pay Off Promise” to go live tomorrow.

I'd rather phone prices get jacked up for a 2 year plan than them keep low initial costs and instead jackup the plan pricing. This way I can bring a phone I already own and not get stuck with overpriced plans designed to subsidize a phone I didn't order.

lol ever since they made the $30 standard as oppose to last year when it was a seasonal special, this is the best they can come up

also good news for Wind i suppose..

Orascom Telecom reported Q2 2013 results this morning and revealed that WIND Mobile has increased their active subscriber base by 18,732, now hitting a total of 620,451, which is up 35.8% from last year. This, according to their press release, maintains “its status as one of the fastest growing wireless operators on record in the Canadian market.” ARPU – average revenue per user – was also up 2.1% over last year to $27.90.

WIND Mobile is looking for buyers and New York-based Verizon is reportedly close to offering over $700 million. WIND currently has 313 points of distribution and 1,311 cell sites.

i just left wind for fido and honestly, i miss the fact that i didnt have to worry bout my data usage.. ill come back one day when they hav better reception indoors and verizon does them good

This, people forget that they are asking a company to subsidize their $700 phone and they wonder why their monthly rates are so high. Truth be told, the Big 3 are being a pain in the ass by jacking up phone prices and monthly rates. I prefer WIND's structure.

i don't see how verizon coming up to canada is a good thing. wind is already not really making much of a profit if any, and once they get bought out by verizon i can see them eventually turning it into the big 1.. once they steal enough customer from robellus they can slowly increase the price on the phone/plans to the point where it's slightly cheaper than robellus.. but not much saving.. and people here don't really have a choice.. cellphone have become essential to people's daily lives.. and once that happens.. the customer us are the one going to be screwed.. Verizon will kill off competition and then monopolize the market.
