Me thinks they will keep extending it past the 20th of May.

^honestly, I don't know how they can talk about opening up economy with 1000 deaths daily ... as much as no one wants to say it, they are proceeding with what Trump said at the outset ... Economy > people dying.

One country is flattening the curve and the other has given up all hope of containing the virus

Trade and business is still getting through, I hope they don't reopen any time soon.

I was just talking to my son about the days I was single. How I crossed into the US without any passport. Just driver's license (we're not talking Enhanced Drivers License). I told him how often I went. I remember buying the Commodore VIC 20 at Fred Meyers on Lakeview. No Bellis Fair, Costco, or Best Buy back then. The only real shopping back then was at the Outlet Mall in Burlington. That and Zellers, K-Mart, Walmart. Seattle Premium Outlets is a recent thing, too. Does anyone remember how Canadians crossed in the 60's 70's and 80's? I didn't have a passport, so it must have been just a driver's license. I recall crossing without showing any papers back then.

Ask your parents.............

I remember crossing the border with my mom (Asian) and my Canadian (Caucasian) neighbour. We were in grade 4. I had a passport back then, so we showed them our passports. My neighbour had no ID, he was just asked a few questions "How do you know these people?" "Where do you live?" etc. Then we were let through. Super weird to think of now...This was maybe 93/94.

Thanks, I recall not being asked anything other than where are you going and for how long. I went down often with the family. No questions about the kids. I guess if one of them looked anything other than Asian, they be like all over it. Back then you couldn’t bring much back before being asked to pay taxes and duty. Back then, our dollar was at par and better for a very short time. Game consoles. Everything from the ViC 20 and Commodore 64 to NES, you name it. I got it from the US. Paid taxes and duties, you were still ahead. I remember when Bellis Fair first opened up. Thousands of Canadians went there. Shop and check out the food court and that buffet.

I remember in the early 2000's crossing over with my citizenship card (which barely qualifies as a valid form of ID let alone a travel document). I had lost my passport in Canada and was working in the US at the time. No questions asked. Those were the days...

I heard a story about a navigational rally that took place back when the border was very open, at least on some roads. The organizers had set the route so that they crossed into the US and back into Canada, however they didn't mention that in the instructions. So the people participating in the event are driving between the countries without knowing it. I was told it was especially confusing when they saw the speed signs because when it said something like 30 on it they thought it meant 30 km/h and not 30 mph.

Must have been after metric system switchover in 1975. Man, the change from imperial to metric was tough for a lot of people, but for people like me who took science, everything was always done in metric.

So, how many feet are there in a yard? (joke)

Answer: depends on how many people are in it.

visitors crossing into canada who are immediate family of canadians/pr are exempt from the closure provided they strictly quarantine

https://www.canada.ca/en/border-serv...residents.html

if they have to make this exemptions less than 2 weeks away from the 6/21 expiry it appears like they'll extend it

How's the border now for shipping items to the states and crossing just to pick them up?
Is it still closed off?

Is it possible to have someone from the US leave goods for you inside the building of the “Canada side” of the border, for you to then pick up? I’m guessing no, but it would sure be nice to get some of my goods that have been sitting 400m across the border for so long!

Border might open up by the time I get my Nexus Card. Over two years of delays. My son applied not that long before me. He got his and I’m in limbo. I would cross the border to pick up parcels and nothing else. No contact at 24/7 Parcel. Wear a respirator and hazmat suit, lol. I’ll be getting my second dose of Phizer soon.

With things getting better, has there been any announcement about borders possibly opening up in July?
or any sort of projection?
