| DIY Automotive space rental
Hey guys,
I am looking for a place to work on my car. Its has to have a car hoist and basic tools that I could rent for an hour or two, does anyone know of any places that are local?
Thanks

None, officially..
However someone from evolved auto in Poco tried to float that idea a while back. Also try ufixit on 12th in NW.
Car lift = $2000
Run down industrial place in Surrey = $500/month
Rent out for $60/hour with no insurance / WCB etc.. and hope for the best = profit?

Nothing that is actually considered a business.
Finding a man cave that's willing to let you in for an hour or two isn't the problem (well, it's is because most places want monthly rentals), it's finding one that will let you use their personal tools. It's a problem because you can't just trust anyone, a full suite of tools can stretch into the thousands of dollars, having them dissapear is not good.
We rent out our shop (monthly) to a guy that we've screened before hand, and he has to buy his own tools. You're going to have a hell of a time unless you're buddies with someone who has exactly what you're describing.
There used to be a motorcycle u-fix it type business in North Van, I think it's gone bust now. It's not a new business model here, there just aren't enough people to keep something like it going in the lower mainland, which is why you have to hunt for shops that are looking for tenants (again, most want monthly entries)

I bet the closure coincided with a customer injury.
I'd suggest just posting on CL > Auto Parts and asking whether someone's willing to rent their driveway/garage/shop hourly, as no legitimate business would pursue this model. Buy your own hand tools at Canadian Tire; everything you need, including a socket set, breaker bar, torque wrench, and jack would only come to like $250.

Honestly private on a certified shop after hours is worst from a shop owner / landlord liability standpoint. If things go south, now you have WCB's charming team of lawyers coming after you too (pulling your shop insurance, your day job will grind to a halt), not to mention CRA scrutinizing the books etc, if it is a cash / friends and family deal. Along with the standard personal injury lawyer. Who honestly want to stir up the hornet nest from hell for a few hundred extra a month?
To the OP, just find some shade tree mechanic on CL or if you are really serious rope a few friends and start your own FnF garage. Shop space from Langley on East is still relatively affordable... there are a few nice new ones near the Mission race track. Quote:
