Well, you said Lexus or Merc and didn't mention the GLK... for all we know you could have been thinking, or hope that we would think, G-class or LX570.
If you mention Lexus or Mercedes in casual conversation, it's more impressive than Acura to normal people.

That's it!!! i'm with OP.. .after 13? acuras... (lost count).. i'm done done done done... ...I curse that beak/grille!!!! but.. not one of those 13? acuras have given me grief.
but if they do a nice 2015 facelift on the RDX with some tech from the new accord, i'd be all over dat! (led tails, led drls, blindspot monitoring, etc)
IF only they built and designed them like they used to!!!

my point in posting at first was to show the punched keyhole, not to explain why I wanted to get a new car. There's people who just wanted to dump their cars because it keep giving them problems.
How about a little diligence on your part by not leaving valuables in plain sight so thief's have no excuse to break in.
I don't know how many times I have to repeat, we have no valuables in the car except children's car seats and a stroller. Not even a god damn sunglasses, radar detector, fancy stereo or ipod. All you can see are two car seats and a huge stroller.

Is it just me or is this an Asian thing? I've certainly heard lots of people say that they prefer German cars to Japanese ones but I've never heard a white person say that an Acura was a tier below a Lexus... Both are fancied up economy Japanese cars, how can somebody say "an Acura is just a fancy Honda" and not think that a Lexus is just a fancy Toyota?

^ I think Lexus has done well separating themselves from Toyota, whereas Acura still use heavily rebadged Honda. Audi felt like glorified VW back then as well...

Never said anything about Revscene. Still confused on why you think buying a Benz or Lexus will deter thieves to break in to your car. Get a good alarm. Park in areas where there is a lot of foot traffic and don't leave anything in your car in plain sight.
OP, it doesn't matter what car you get. The car itself will not deter a thief looking for loose change or sunglass or anything to steal so they can sell it to get a fix.
The problem you are facing is that the thief is forcing the locks to turn which doesn't trigger the alarm.
If the thief is looking to smash and grab, then the Merc or Lexus won't do any better.

I would not think Acura is a tier lower than Lexus until I own one myself. Given the similar prices on the MDX and RX, we believed that it's a similar quality car. But it's not the case (I'm comparing my personal experience with our family 90's LS400 vs 2011 MDX)

Exactly, Lexus did a way better job differentiating themselves from Toyota than Acura did from Honda.
Lexus was always known for being luxurious, RWD, super comfy, reliable, and now sporty. Things you don't normally associate with a Toyota (except for reliability). They have their own brand identity.
I want to point out to OP that a GLK is no where near a 40K car... a GLK250 BASE model starts @ 42K, my friend just picked up (July this year) a GLK350 4matic with marginal options, and he paid close to 61,000. Hell, the GLK does not even come with HID standard, its a $1100 dollar option -____-
just putting it out there =P
