I love Porsches, its nice to see a 911 at the top again.
i didnt realize they sold the Focus ST here...saw one yesterday
Is it the same platform as the MS3?
always nice to see these 'measley' FF vehicles stack up againist exotics/supercars
The MS3 is supposed to handle like a pig compared to the focus ST. They are both based on ford Global-C Platform but there are probably a lot of differences
911 won last year too. The cayman S was pretty damn fast and ran a lap time similar to the M6 and F-Type both which have way more power.

I've driven the Speed3 and it has too much power, that's the reason for it's lackluster handling when compared to the Focus. There are rumors that for the 2014 or 2015 Speed3, Mazda is dropping the power to ~200hp and focusing on the handling a lot more.
As for the test, i'm surprised how I'm not seeing the Ferrari 458 and the McLaren MP4-12C... I would of expected at least one of them to be in the list considering so many other auto reviewers are giving those cars such high praises. Seems like this is more of just a list of cars Motor Trend had available to them on that day.

The Viper is a dog built for straight line performance.
The Viper drove fairly well but apparently they had some quality issues - mechanical problems, mismatched tires, paint burning off because of the exhaust. All that sunk the Viper's score.

"That Viper generates a lot of g's," says Randy Pobst. "In every direction. It accelerates hard. It stops hard. It corners hard. And most of the things it does are quite sudden, and it is a full-attention car to drive. You have to be on the ball, on top of that car all the time."
It was also a handful to drive.

The cars had to be new or significantly revised. Otherwise no Lotus or no FRS is also surprising.

The next MS3 is only going to have 16 more horsepower than the current normal Mazda 3? that would be a massive fail.
Just because it goes fast around a track doesn't mean it's a "driver's car," or that it's fun to drive. The Nissan GT-R is blistering around a track, and a lot of people complain that it's boring..whereas a 26k FRS has like 200hp and is a blast to drive.
