So the bottom line is if you want both fun and efficient then wait for the Double Clutch systems to be more common! (DSG/DCT/PDK/ecoshift)

I hate it.

I had it for 4 years in my Nissan Versa. It shakes when accelerating from a stop. Slow, especially when you're on the highway and need to overtake someone, feels like you're trying to accelerate one gear too high. Maybe it would be better in a car with a bigger engine, but in a slow car, it makes it even worse to drive.

My car has CVT. The only negative for me is that like others have said is it's slow from a dead stop.

After that initial "shift" or whatever the hell it's doing, the drive is fine

If you're one of those "only real men drive manual" rednecks, then stay away

i DD a 2012 rogue with the 2.5 inline 4 with CVT on a 3500LB chassis...

you know what I didnt mind it at all, and for a CUV, you were not going to win races anyways, if you just drive it like a normal car, I wouldnt say its worse than an automatic...

Double clutch is a lot heavier and has more frictional surfaces than a CVT (not to mention expensive). It needs a lot more sensors and processing power to keep track of the gears in order to shift.

You basically have to pick extreme fuel efficiency ie CVT or fun and/or torque.

Just because the word is hip and sounds a lot since it has "double" on it.. doesn't mean it is good in every situation.

If it is a grocery getter or commuter who see a car as a appliance, CVT is the cheapest way to go.

specifically for a 2010 Nissan Cube with a CVT, if you just had an emergency stop from say 50km/h you are UNABLE to accelerate again without stepping on the throttle with a lot of authority.

The abrupt stop will confuse the gearbox momentarily, and then it will try to resume after lining up all the sensors and pick a usable ratio.

Something you will need to adjust to.

One thing for sure on the cvt's is that it is quite odd and if your used to regular transmission it will take some time getting use to. Drove the companies sentra for the first time and thought something was wrong with it, until I realized it was ctv. I still find it funny every time I drive it.

What I mean is there are some "car enthusiasts" on these forums that criticize anyone and everyone that drives something other than a manual transmission and think that if you dont, you dont have the right to call yourself a car enthusiast. I'm not gonna get into it but there have been a few threads like this in the past.

No one will deny that dual clutch, automated, manual transmissions shift faster. The argument is that many find conventional, manual transmissions more fun.

Not arguing that. What I'm saying is that I think its a problem when someone thinks they have the right to say others aren't real "car enthusiasts" based on the transmission in their vehicle.

To each his own. If everyone liked the same stuff, it'd be pretty boring.
