Stator + reg/rec question (wiring) the leads coming from the stator, are they specific in which prong on the reg/rec they need to be connected to? or can i just hook them up to whichever and they'll sort them selves out... for reference, my bike has a 3 stage stator. |
You probably figured it out already, but no it doesn't matter, they're all the same. Your stator is sending three wires of AC current to the rectifier which converts it into DC. |
whats a stator? |
... lol. stator is the alternator for a bike. billy: yeah, figured it out but there is a new electrical issue now. the bike won't crank, and when i turn the key on the water temp gauge shoots to the top. |

lol definitely checked that lol, that also would not explain the way the temp gauge is acting lol |
lol was a shot! bike will not crank, does that mean, the starter is not turning the engine, or the starter is turning the engine? because you rr'd the stator assembly, you could have possibly messed with the wiring to the cps. As for the water temp gauge, high temperature = low resistance in circuit. possible short in your sensor circuit. Disconnect the water temp sensor and see if the water temp gauge changes. |
1) bike does not crank 2)the only wired i touched was the 3 wires for the stator and the stator mounts to the crankcase cover so i didn't even have to remove the flywheel or anything. 3) i didn't touch anything to do with the temp sensor but i will check it out anyway.. was thinking of replacing it with an aftermarket gauge i have anyway so this may be more motivation lol. |
Charge or change your battery...if your bike still wont crank..you dont have a stator/rectifier problem. Most likely other issues like starter, clutch switch, kick stand switch etc. |
battery is fully charged, it was on the charger before i put it back in the bike after replacing the parts. i don't think the bike has a kickstand or clutch switch. i've started it in gear before (doh!) and ridden away with the stand out (double doh!) lol i'll see if i can jump the starter solenoid |
Did you only change the stator? |
stator and reg/rec, both were toast |
Did you check your fuses? My 30 amp fuse used to blow up on my gixxer when my rectifier went south. |
checked the only fuse i could find, and replaced just to be safe.. i'll have another look when i can find the time.. |
