returning my spare nexus 5 to google. called them up and today happened to be the last day to do a return, whew!

Just weird battery life. Seems like it drained a lot in the morning and then stopped draining hard at noon. Hmmm.....

StylinRed 11-20-2013 08:11 PM

that's weird do you have something setup to update frequently between certain hours? email or something?

Is there a way to remove the google search bar on the homescreen? or is that where rooting/etc comes into play?

Don't have push schedules.

Let's see tonight.

It might be from the drive from Coquitlam to downtown. Always searching for a better signal on the move.

Decided to try with Google Location Services off. Battery seems to be lasting much longer.

With Location Services off, what features am I missing?

knight604 11-20-2013 11:38 PM

I don't think you should disable GCMservices or you won't get your push notifications. For location manager, you should try turning off Google Location Reporting or disabling Google Now if that still doesn't resolve it.

I've found that with my usage, at work (good LTE signal), I'm at 94% after 6 hours 20 mins total time and 10 mins of screen on time. On an average day, I get around 16 hours and 2 hours screen on time @ 50% battery. Stock ROM, Franco r14 kernel, full sync, Google Now on, Google Location Reporting off.

Wow, that's some awesome battery stats your getting. I read up about kernels and am tempted to flash the Franco r14 kernel.

Sorry for the newb question here.
After flashing the kernel...
How do I set up or apply the kernel in my phone?
Is there an app that I need download?
Do I need to download franco.Kernel updater in the Play store?
Do I just leave it alone?
I am on Stock Rom, Rooted and Unlocked bootloader.

Thanks.

R5x 11-21-2013 09:04 AM

You can just leave it alone if you want to use default settings. If you want to tweak then download Franco 's app (or faux or whichever app your kernel dev made) or Trickster if you want something free. I paid for Franco's since I always use his kernels.

Thanks.
I did a backup of my Stock Rom via TWRP.
Will this save my Stock Kernel as well?
So, I can restore my Stock Kernel in case I get into a boot loop.

Are you just on default settings with the Franco Kernel?

it uses your GPS and wifi to track you all the time. that's why your phone is dying fast.

as to features you're missing, maybe geolocation weather and the ability to tell your facebook friends which McDonalds you're sending your Instragram photo of a Cheeseburger from.
