Yup. I don't get why they didn't install it before shipping it so the user can use the phone right out of the box.

There no way to use Play Music up here? even using a VPN the service is saying 'Nope Sorry' :/ but a lot of people are saying that they have no problem using it -_-



yeah that was a pita for me too since i picked the phone up in the states couldnt use it till i got back -_-

just ordered a black nexus 5. my galaxy s3 turned out to be a lemon. it wont connect to any mobile network for some reason. i googled around and its a common issue with samsung phones. people send their phones into samsung for warranty repair and they'll get the phone back and about a week later it does the same thing again. i wiped all data and did a fresh software install using odin and still no luck. i'm really disappointed with samsung. hopefully the nexus 5 can restore my faith in android phones.

That being said, I installed Purity right away since it was so great for the N4. It's really early though, and there are definitely some performance issues. I have a cool looking live wallpaper that runs at 60 fps, but not on this phone with this rom.

What's the best kernel to use? Franco was good on the Galaxy Nexus for a while but after a certain point he never seemed to get it running well. Semaphore was my fave for the N4.

Threw on Franco this time but maybe it's what's causing the performance issue... Suggestions?

I'm using cataclysm with faux kernel. Looks stock for the most part. Seems good for me. Although I don't use LWP.

I tried Purity.. but was really disappointed with that rom... maybe it was too early to say.. Im really liking Slimkat... tried Cataclysm also before slimkat...

Used 100% stock for 2 days. Battery life was good. Noticeably better than n4 but I couldn't stop my flashing itch.

Flashed Franco nightlies next and idle wifi was improved and colors were less yellow but a bit too blue. Performance was similar to stock, but multitasking was slightly more laggy.
Switched from dalvik to ART after and there was a pretty big performance boost in terms of responsiveness (especially when multitasking and just moving around the OS in general). That 1/2 second lag when you press the multitask/recents button is gone and everything is just snappy and smooth.

Flashed Cataclysm last night and stayed on Franco nightlies + ART. Battery life and overall fluidity in OS is about the same as stock + franco + ART. Just more options in ROM. Good combo for daily and stock-like.

Using Purity and ElementalX and battery use is flat as can be when idling :thumbs:

The external speaker on my phone just died. I was changing my notification chime and suddenly I get no sound..
Tried restarting multiple times and still not working..

Tried ART mode, and installed the custom libart.so to get whatsapp working. Unfortunately other programs were still broken (Final Fantasy V, Titanium Backup and who knows how many others, I switched back already)

I'm pretty sure it's billing address. My Google account is tied to my US address and credit card and I get Google Music even with a Canadian IP.

I think it checks your sim. I had the same problem with my wife's dad's phone. He has a china sim, which means no paid apps. I had to put my sim in his phone to access the hong kong play store (to install Tiger Woods golf, naturally :fuckthatshit: )

Not sure what has changed, I've been streaming music through play music since they announced it. All I did was use tor, set it up so i was going through new york, logged into play music on my computer through my google account. Done. I get everything except access, and I stream my music through my phone every day.

yeah my billing addy on my gmail is a US one as well as my cc but no luck :/
i think that might be it when i go into my phones profile it shows wind and i think it says canada in there along the lines of "last login location"
i read that google changed things a few weeks ago so the old options on how to get access dont work anymore :/ ah well ive got my music library and other streaming/radio options guess it doesn't matter
