So after using the nexus 5 for a full day I've only got one gripe. In places I would get full signal with my s3 and huawei ascend I get 3 bars. In certain places such as inside my house I used to get about 2 bars with those phones now with the nexus 5 i get nothing.. So far everything else has been good, no dead pixels or speaker issues.

wtf I used to have such good battery life (36+ hours) now after a month of using it, I can barely get a full day out of it (16+ hours).

I'm running stock rom and default settings. I'm guessing it's becuase of Google now is becoming more active so I turned it off.. Hopefully that resolves my issue

ryugeeh 12-06-2013 10:13 AM

0/4. This one I just got has a huge speck of dust right in the middle of the screen

Turn Off "Scanning Always Available" Under Advanced WiFi Settings if you haven't already. Apparently that's a culprit for a few people.

Battery life still amazing for me. Google Now is off and so is Wifi Scanning. Waiting for custom roms to start implementing 4.4.1 before I update.

On a side note I received my SGP Neo Hybrid. That's one well made case but seems a little more slippier and a bit taller compared to my Diztronic. Will use it for ahwhile and see how it goes.

yogenfruz 12-06-2013 12:02 PM

I average about 16-18 hours of battery with about 3-4 hours of screen time, and usually WiFi on all day. All in all, a great upgrade from my last phone which was getting about 6 with the same screen time.

SkinnyPupp 12-06-2013 03:11 PM

Yeah I barely ever plug my phone in anymore.. Only once it gets down to 20% or so, which is every other day. After being used to the iphone 5's fucking shit battery for a few months, this is really impressive

knight604 12-06-2013 03:15 PM

4.4.1 Cataclysm + R19 is out :D

4.4.1 is supposed to fix the email exchange issues. I thought it fixed my sync loop problem but I encountered it once today which is a little disappointing. I turned off contacts sync after. Let's see if it helps...

I also switched to ART runtime since whatsapp is working now. So far it has been stable and all my apps seem to work. Haven't noticed any significant changes to battery life. Except for a bit of battery drain due to that stupid sync loop.

so i gotta ask how to update to 4.4.1?

in symbian there was an option to check for system updates but i cant seem to find anything similar to that :/

I think people are updating with a custom image that is out... eventually Google will send update notifications to all phones. This is how you're "supposed" to do it.

They used to have an option for this but I guess they took it out

StylinRed 12-06-2013 10:11 PM

ahhh okay thanks

guess i'll eventually want to look into flashing firmwares onto my droid too i'll start reading up on that :D

Go to settings and then about phone near the bottom then system updates.

Turn off Google Location Reporting (Both location reporting and location history) and turn off the background Wifi Always Scanning mode.

I leave my location mode on High Accuracy and I still don't get Google Play Services eating up much battery at all. Didn't even show on my battery graph today. Battery life on this phone has been amazing coming from previous Nexus devices.

I think you have to be running the beta builds in order to get the transparent notification bar. Just change your update settings to pull the beta instead of the official versions.

I'm sure if you wanted to install a Symbian OS update 1-2 weeks before it was released, the process would have been just as involved (if not moreso)

StylinRed 12-07-2013 05:24 AM

nope all you do on symbian is download the firmware plug the phone in and click "flash"

edit: the process on android wasn't too bad though its just that on paper it seemed way too annoying

!MiKrofT 12-07-2013 09:08 AM

That's because you're side loading the update. When Google releases an update for nexus the process is exactly the same as symbian except no need to plugin as the update is ota. What you're doing is grabbing it early before they pushed it.

yeah i get that that's what i was comparing it to, when using Navifirm to download firmware from Nokias developer/internal servers and then using Phoenix to flash firmware early

but as mentioned it just seemed a lot more complicated/annoying on paper for android when you're actually going through the James Bond-like finger play it's not much of a hassle

!MiKrofT 12-07-2013 03:59 PM

It's actually much easier with custom ROMs. I just upgraded from Cataclysm 4.4 to 4.4.1 and did everything via the phone.

Currently running Cataclysm 4.4.1, 4.4.1 Bootloader + Radio, Faux123 005m.

Camera focus is definitely faster.
