well, it said "to update, reset your device"

it loaded CWM and went through a few prompts then reset itself.

I thought OTA doesn't work properly with custom recovery installed.

I'm now on Cataclysm 4.4.2 with faux 005m.

yep I am as well

SkinnyPupp 12-11-2013 10:13 PM

Why install a custom recovery when using stock anyway? Just changing the kernel? If that's the case, you should be installing rom updates manually even if it's stock

R5x 12-12-2013 03:51 PM

Not sure about CWM, but with TWRP the OTA updates still work.
I sideloaded to update from 4.4 to 4.4.1 then to 4.4.2 while on stock rom + custom recovery. The only time an OTA update will fail is when you remove an app from /system/app or if you add a file to /system/app. Even if you're rooted, an OTA will still work (you'll have to re-root after).

In fact, 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 update didn't touch kernel so it went through even though I was on franco kernel for that update.

Hmm experiencing higher than normal battery drain under 4.4.2. Just rebooted and it seems ok now. Hope it's just a momentary glitch.

yameen 12-12-2013 07:19 PM

there is quite an actual battery improvement during idling for the nexus 4 in 4.4.2

Apparently a lot of people have been noticing that as well. Mine has been fine until tonight when my gmail was keeping my phone awake for 1.5 hours for no reason until I restarted. Glitch as well hopefully.

For those who have had previous Nexus devices, would you say the N5 has about the same number of minor little issues as previous Nexus devices? Or more? or less?

kwy 12-12-2013 09:56 PM

More..a lot more. My Gnex was flawless for the longest time.

SkinnyPupp 12-12-2013 09:59 PM

I had the last few Nexus models, and this one is the most solid of all for me. The only issue I have is the crappy GPS

R5x 12-12-2013 10:09 PM

Everything's been great on my replacement Nexus 5. Definitely the best Nexus I've used. Way better than the Galaxy Nexus (performance) and blows away the battery life of the Nexus 4 (my biggest complaint with it). Never had any real problems with Nexus devices in general.

truth. I loaded up 4.4.2 last night. Unplugged at 530am, was at 50percent at 5pm... charged up for half hour on the juice pack on the way out to craft beer..

come home..its at 25percent
but this is probably with some streaming and hockeypool research
total SOT today 4h20m

not that great

FerrariEnzo 12-13-2013 12:27 AM

lol good thing im still on 4.4.1

Gh0stRider 12-13-2013 08:25 AM

k, maybe i'll stay on 4.4 until that battery drain is fixed.

radioman 12-13-2013 09:48 AM

just updated to 4.4.2 this morning.... haven't noticed any battery drain....

nexus 4? GTFO

JKam 12-13-2013 10:57 AM

My only complaint is the autofocus time on it... Haven't seen what it's like with 4.4.2 though.

Gucci Mane 12-13-2013 11:24 AM

I'm on 4.4.2 with no battery issues and camera is finally the way it should have been out of the box. Running stock ROM not rooted.

Tim Budong 12-13-2013 11:27 AM

its not really a battery issue for the drain

it just runs out faster

kwy 12-13-2013 11:37 AM

Got the update as well..app drawer lag seems to be mostly fixed. Camera seems smoother as well.

radioman 12-13-2013 11:53 AM

I never got 4.4.1 so what a change for the cam.

After focus shutter is basically instant.

!MiKrofT 12-13-2013 11:55 AM

I don't think 4.4.1 was pushed OTA? No one I know got it without sideloading.
