hey guys wanna pick up a Nexus 5 locally for a real price, where's the best place, Craigs List gougers want $500+

I saw Google store had it for $350

SpartanAir 12-17-2013 10:00 AM

My N5 arrives soon, I'm hoping it's a newer one without some of the flaws I read about here. I'm still pumped though.

Has anyone here owned an LG G2? I recently watched some comparison videos, and it just seems like the N5 is a G2 with less (useless) features and half the price.

Why would anyone get a G2?

I haven't looked lately but there should be a lot of pollen Craigslist dumping at cost.

Pm Psykopathik on rs. He's selling a couple at cost too.

Hate battery life on 4.4.2. Gonna wipe clean and install on the weekend to see if its better.

yogenfruz 12-17-2013 09:45 PM

Having generally normal battery drain with the amount I use the phone throughout the day, except this caught my eye today:
http://imageshack.us/a/img30/7986/8zai.png

http://imageshack.us/a/img843/9214/0r09.png

Anyone else getting similar things with 8sms? Noticed it after 4.4.2 update, but could have happened before that and just hadn't look until now.

EDIT: Not sure why the images are sized differently. Also, sorry for the massive image...

EDIT2: Apparently it's a wake-lock issue when 8sms tries to send/receive a MMS message, but is unable to due to no Mobile Data connection, or due to some other connectivity issue. Just turned on data (usually always off), and got 5 MMS messages right away. Hopefully that fixes it. Will update.

Holy shit instagram isn't even on and it's killing my battery, what to do? Sorry I am a newb with android

yogenfruz 12-17-2013 10:02 PM

^ You sure it's not running in the background? You can press the "Recent Apps" button (Bottom Right) and swipe it away to close it after you use it. Maybe that'll do it?

SB7 12-17-2013 11:31 PM

I did but it still shows up... Also tried to force close but still there. Wtf so annoying

I'm already having some off days with my nexus 4, some days an app will come and FCK up the whole battery just because it feels like it... It might be msg, might be Google play, etc... For the most part though most frustrating thing would be certain apps literally trying to force themselves onto your device by constantly running and updating, things that I can't even uninstall like Google Magazines and other Google apps that I will never use.., I've even resorted to using developer options to set phone to NO Background process, and even then all that does is gimme constant pop ups when these apps try to start themselves up in the background saying they stopped working and I have to click the OK prompt and so on....

So reading issues u guys are having with the nexus 5, not lookin forward to dealing with the same crap again

People don't come in here every day to say "oh my phone is working fine!" you only hear from people having issues. And most of these issues are probably due to crappy apps or bad custom roms and kernels. I see people recommending Franco kernels, which haven't been good since the Nexus S.

Mine is still fine, and I only have the google apps I use installed. Purity rom, ElementalX kernel undervolted to 700 mv, and PA Gapps mini package which includes

been getting about 4 hour screen time, about 14 hours with phone on, with still 10 percent left =S

can't say thats good or bad anymore

I hit about 35% from at around 18-19hrs with around 3-3.5hr Screen Time

Running cataclysm with Faux Kernel
Yes I bought the app

And as Skinny has said, Franco hasn't been very good since Nexus..though his Galaxy Nexus stuff was decent. The guy just comes off as a big douche at times.

R5x 12-18-2013 08:15 AM

I've actually had the opposite experience with Franco kernel than the rest of you. I've been using his n4 and n5 kernels and they're fine. I easily get 18 hrs on an average day with around 4 hrs screen on time by the time I sleep and I'm not near zero percent. I haven't been experiencing any weird battery drains at all that are due to kernel issues (almost always because of an errant app). The guy is a douche but has toned it down considerably lately Lol.

On the other hand, I tried faux kernel when I first got the n5 and, using his recommended settings, I noticed choppy app drawer animation which was due to his gpu recommended settings.

To be honest I see very little difference between using x or y custom kernel unless there is a specific feature on one you use. They all have pretty much the same features because they are all borrowing each other's ideas or codes.

If you get weird battery drains on android you need to check your apps. Install betterbatterystats and diagnose it yourself. It's a little tedious but it comes with using androids multitasking environment.

General question, if I wipe and did a restore using stock android would it transfer all my app data including my progress in games or my settings in say Pulse. Or does it only just automatically download all the apps I previously had and that's it?

Cloud save really depends on the app. The tools are there, but it's up to the app developer to utilize it.

Generally speaking, if an app requires a login of some sort, it's probably saving progress/preferences to cloud, and it's just a matter of logging in again after you re-install the app to restore. You'll have to examine your apps individually to see whether it's saving to cloud.

Another option is to use an app like Helium to backup what you can:

Switched back to the diztronic. Feels better for me. The neo hybrid will be for sale in the classifieds section if anyone's interested.

For the Google apps, root and install Titanium Backup to freeze or remove them if you don't need them. For all other apps, install Greenify to hibernate any problem apps (still allows you to open those apps on demand, they just won't run in the background).

The only apps I don't have Greenified are chat apps and Facebook, although the Facebook app is a big killer and I should probably hibernate it.

Not to be rude, but I wouldn't follow this advice. If you have a problem app, find out what it is, why it's doing it, and take care of it. "greenifying" every single app is needless, and probably causes more problems than it fixes (because 99% of the time there is no problem to fix)

It's like those people who run task killers... just don't. That's not how it works.

G-spec 12-18-2013 11:47 PM

^ I don't know if you read what I wrote or not, but I'm sure you know better than me, I've tried all the typical steps to "take care of it" this going back to even my Nexus S which was my first Android experience. I mean I would literally disable and uninstall these troublesome Google apps, and best it could do for me was "Ok I will uninstall the updates to this app and bring the app back to the base version"
no bitch, I want the app OFF my fckin phone, 'tta fck is Google Play Magazines or Currents, etc....

just an observation but looks like Google went apeshit after their Google+ fiasco, got butthurt nobody gave a shit about it and now they're just cramming shit down our throats..
I understand they build the phones and software this way and it's getting more and more obtrusive with each new model, which is a shame

It's true some apps can be broken if Greenified (it warns you when you first install it), but you can always un-Greenify them and they revert back to normal. Some apps just can't be fixed within their own settings though.

I never wanted Boingo to constantly search for wifi, only wanted it to run when I need it and there's no option for that. Greenified it and it no longer wakes up, only works when I open it on demand. FolderSync was the same, would wake up constantly even when I had no cloud syncing scheduled.

Note that when you see a Google service using a lot of battery (like "Messaging, Play Services, etc) this is caused by any app, not necessarily one of the built-in Google apps.

So how are the white N5's doing? is the back getting scratched and stained easily?
I'm still deciding whether to get a black or white one.

StylinRed 12-19-2013 01:37 PM

my white one looks brand new that is i think it looks brand new...

would need to place it next to a new one to be able to tell

doesn't have any issues though and i've dropped it a number of times already or i should say its slid off the chair/table/etc several times already
