holy crap. tried to switch simcards on the plane today and had the hardest time. used the original poker too. ended up bending it.

Are there any folio type cases out there that offer sleep/wake function but also have a cut out for the earpiece?

!MiKrofT 02-09-2014 11:05 PM

What exactly does everyone mean by terrible speaker? Distortion or just low volume?

yea I had a chance to play with mine for a bit and I find the speaker just fine.

People always need something to complain about. The nexus line is designed with budget in mind. Don't like the loud speaker? Use headphones or stream audio to something. Or just buy the HTC one if speakers on a cell phone are that important to you. I also happen to find the speaker on my phone to be just fine.

First versions of the phone had a flaw for low speaker volume. Look it up.

All they did was drill larger speaker grills didn't they? Wouldn't think that would make that much of a difference.

^Try listing to music at the max volume, then use your finger and cover up half of the speaker grill. You'll hear the difference.

They did not drill finger size holes in there man. This is not the same as putting my finger over it.

I thought the design flaw was actually too much glue?

Synapz 02-11-2014 06:14 PM

Use a custom kernel like Faux and use Faux Sound to raise the volumes...

Much better than a sketchy hack job on your own phone.

using franco. Got major improvement in battery life as well.

seems like the volume issue is the same for nexus devices? my nex4 was the same too

R5x 02-11-2014 08:20 PM

I just edited the mixer_paths.xml file directly:
xda-developers - View Single Post - [MOD][GUIDE][4.4.2] Headphone and Speaker Volume Boost for the Nexus 5

Combined with the Android 4.4.1+ update, I no longer have any problems with the volume of the external speaker and I find it's more than loud enough.

I am not saying they made finger size holes. I am saying they made the holes bigger than before, it makes a difference.

!Yaminashi 02-11-2014 09:41 PM

What kind of case is everyone using? I'm getting a little tired of my TPU case.
I took the phone out today to do some dusting and was pretty tempted to leave it off, but then I remember someone dropping their phone the one day they decided not to case it :heckno:

I really like the idea of a sleep/wake case but the official LG case is pretty overpriced

!MiKrofT 02-11-2014 10:33 PM

personally I hate those folio type cases. I can see them working for a tablet. The oem bumper is a great case minus the cheapass finishing coat they give it.

!Yaminashi 02-13-2014 08:21 PM

Anyone had any experience with Nillkin flip cases?
This one seems to fit the bill, but I can't tell if the back is a matte or glossy finish.
http://www.amazon.ca/Nillkin-Fruit-S...+Nillkin+fruit

Also I've read that polycarbonate backs seem to scratch up Nexus 5's?

Hakkaboy 02-14-2014 10:14 AM

The Seidio Ledger looks to be the best "folio" case.

Smart wake up + a hole for the notification LED.

Not cheap tho, around ~30US

Currently using the Ringke Fusion Hybrid that I bought on Amazon for 10.99. Works well and all buttons on the side is very responsive. Clear back so that it shows the white N5 well

Kaolinite 02-14-2014 12:18 PM

im using the Spigen cases the gold/black one

!Yaminashi 02-14-2014 01:10 PM

Yeah I saw the seidio ledger but damn its like twice the price of everything else

Maybe minutely but nowhere as covering your finger difference.

Is there a local retailer that stocks the nexus wireless charger?

areyounoob 02-19-2014 11:41 PM

Spigen Ultra Hybrid over here.
