I'm currently trying a fix for it that retains google now functionality as well. Will update if successful.

Yeah it has to do with the fact that the latest version of Google search app (3.4.16+) constantly collects data if you leave Google Now on regardless what your Google location settings and reporting are set at.
Most people are complaining about it since the Android 4.4.3 update because the newest version of search is bundled with it.
A fast and easy fix without root is to just either disable google now or turn your location mode to "device only" instead of high accuracy or battery saving since both of these options will still allow background data collection for Google apps.
If you're rooted, there is a better way to retain functionality that I'm testing involving the app "disable service" from the play store. I'm currently narrowing down which things to disable from Google play services that have to do with constant network location data while allowing google Now to still mostly function.

Wish there is a better apps out there that would let me chose which apps I want to have internet access to. Other apps will not have access to it unless I manually open it.

Other apps will not have access to it unless I manually open it. | The bad thing about turning everything off is that you lose all the functionality of Google Now and any other apps that may want to figure out your location. Not that I love Google Now, but it seems that it's pretty much a cornerstone of Android from here on out so might as well get used to it..
It's unfortunate that the latest Google Search app has really screwed up control of location reporting. Before, you could actually disable "Location Reporting" and "Location History" which wouldn't affect 3rd party apps requesting location but would only affect Google Apps. That way, you wouldn't get massive battery drains from Google Play Services from leaving location ON. Now it seems there is no choice and they will constantly track and feed your location info to Google unless you completely disable Location altogether by choosing "Device Only".
There are many apps called "App Ops" (or something similar) that will allow you to permit or revoke location and many other permissions on a per-app-basis. I find it doesn't work for Google Play Services, but it works fine for 3rd party apps. Try it out. Might require root though.

Has anyone else had any issues with their proximity sensors?
A few times now when I move the phone away from my ear to hang up, I've had to resort to pressing the power button to wake the screen because my prox. sensor failed to notice I moved the phone away.
Even then, the power button sometimes doesn't always wake the screen right away
It doesn't happen often, but when it does...

^You have it set to detect, right? Did it start before or after updating to 4.4.3?

I always thought the proximity sensor turned off the screen by default if activated during a call?

Will be trying L later as well. Early reports are that it's OK to be used as a daily driver even in its incomplete form.

After having Android L on my phone for about half a day, I think it's stable enough for me as a daily. The visual changes and notifications are much nicer than KitKat and previous versions of Android. Too bad the heads up notifications and new Material Design Google Apps are not included.
Still some little bugs though but nothing that's a deal-breaker at the moment. Not as smooth and snappy overall as a polished 4.4.x rom yet. The animation in multitasking view in particular is a bit choppy when lots of apps are open. The camera is a bit glitchy at the moment too and the HDR+ mode is SUPER slow.
