Bad idea to go boarding today... So much rain, worst snowboarding experience.
Went on 6 runs on Cypress, then decided to go home.

At least now I know what's it like if I go on a rainy day.

Heading up to whistler tomorrow. Should have about 30cm of new snow...

Heard its not really light fluffy snow, but a little heavier. NBD though, until I get stuck and I cant get going...:heckno:

I've gone riding in the rain before. If you don't have water proof gear, you will get wet. Lots of brands claim to be waterproof, which are a lie, but you know for sure when its pouring rain and youre soaked to the bone. This is the only time gortex really shines.

I noticed a lot of people mistaken water resistant vs water proof lol.

saveth 03-09-2014 05:07 PM

I own my fair share of outerwear and quite a few of them clearly say water proof and they aren't. I use those jackets for walking around for a short period of time. I'm slowly biting the bullet and outfitting myself with all gortex gear but its quite expensive. Hopefully next season I'll finally be able yo afford a gortex jacket to finish the collection.

Goretex is not the only material that is entirely water proof. It certainly is among the best, but don't be fooled into thinking to have good gear you have to go spend $700 on a goretex jacket.

On another note, whistler was excellent today. Nice soft snow, and by afternoon I was lapping the park with enough speed to hit every feature.

Lol, it was so bad, even my Gortex gloves got soaked through. It was really THAT bad. Maybe the gloves are dirty and not as effective now, and I have to wash it with Nickwax.

Surprisingly, my 5000mm pants and jacket was still doing alright... But my gloves and boots got soaked through.

Unless you guys are very extreme riders, I don't see much of a point of going all out with the Goretex gear. You'll probably have more fun just planning to go on a drier day. The clothing gets so "heavy" even if the water doesn't soak through.

z3german 03-12-2014 12:25 PM

went cypress sunday and monday

Sunday was great, it was the day after we had 100+mm rain. Snow was a weird hard powder, lots of great sections with way better than expected powder

Monday was pretty shite. In the 24 hours the powder dried up real good. Still have powder, but it is so dry you just slip around. Caught a lot of edges I never usually catch, ended up leaving an hour and a half earlier than expected.

Better to be dry than wet no matter what kind of a rider you are.

Anyone heading up to cypress soon? Or is season over pretty much.

Cant imagine it getting colder/wetter at the same time for season to pick up again, whistler and beyond is where its at now

Still gonna go up 1 time to use my free day. Totally wasnt worth the gold pass, only went 4 times and only 1 of the days I got some decent conditions. 3 other days were quite mediocre.

Think of it this way. As long as you go up 2 times without using the gold pass. It makes the pass worth it already.

heisenberg 03-15-2014 06:05 PM

anyone go up to cypress recently? wondering what the conditions are like.

lowda9 03-18-2014 04:33 PM

whistler was really fun today. snow was soft and towards the end of the day on the bottom runs the snow started turning to slush which was great to ride on. No lines all day, got so many runs in today.

Kisame 03-20-2014 09:46 AM

just completed my burton goretex set, I got every piece for about 50% off when ordering online. I'm ready for the rain and pow next season haha

Went up to Cypress today. Some fresh snow and pretty soft, spring-like conditions. It was pretty warm in the afternoon but got cool and was icy in some spots later in the evening. Last night of night boarding :( We'll see how many more weekends there will be, but next weekend looks like it might be pretty good.

fishCak3s 04-02-2014 11:24 AM

Whistler over the past weekend. Beautiful when it's clear, but it was foggy half of the time.

Amped 04-11-2014 01:12 PM

Has anyone been to cypress lately? I still have my "free" admission for buying the gold medal card.

Pegacorn 04-11-2014 05:26 PM

Went up to Cypress on Sunday and it was a little soft but still pretty good, not slush. Hoping to go up tomorrow morning and not sure what to expect. Might be a bit slushy, supposed to rain a bit up there tonight, but sunny tomorrow.

Pegacorn 04-12-2014 10:57 PM

Snow was still pretty good up on Cypress today, but getting slushy and sparse. Some rocks poking through on Horizon. Warm and sunny, barely needed a jacket. I'm done for the season :(
Get up there tomorrow if you can!

Simplex123 04-13-2014 03:58 PM

at cypress right now. The snow is actually very good for spring. Slush but better than ice. Large and xl jumps on eagle have great landings! Sucks how they're only open Thurs-sun now

Hey guys. Just finished our season edit. It was a slow start, but it did pick up after March! Hope you guys had a good year riding the slopes.

EX-R 04-20-2014 05:40 AM

I know its late notice but is there anyone interested in buying 2 lift tickets to cypress for today? Selling both for $40.

Anyone know a place that has snowboards at clearance right now? Im planning to buy a new board for next season :D

Pegacorn 06-23-2014 08:01 PM

The Boardroom clearance shop on West 4th. I got a good deal on my board there. Snowboards - The Boardroom
