Not only a toll, but we'd also pay it through our taxes (somewhat hidden of course) and then we'd also pay and extra 2 or 3 Levies on fuel because translink will complain that they had to build it... Which is why we fucking pay them in the first place.
So yes, we will no matter what be paying for that new project. I'm glad I've been riding my bike lately Posted via RS Mobile |

You realize that this is how the government pays for everything right? They get their money from us, and then use it for infrastructure and other expenses such as welfare and health care.
Frankly I think this is a better use of the money than giving it to those who refuse to go get a job.

Normally the traffic there is backed up to where River Road splits into two and becomes Highway 17 - from there on it's 2 hours
Sometimes it's jammed up so bad you can literally get out and take a picture of your car (yes, people do get out of their cars and push when gas prices get bad)
point:
If for whatever reason there was an accident anywhere NEAR the Queensborough or Alex Fraser, forget it! just stay and get some OT hours while you're at it.
It's not the fact that the jam is one hour that makes it enraging.
It's the fact that the tunnel is completely INCAPABLE of dealing with the traffic volume we have now, yet the jackoffs sitting in their fancy offices in Victoria had the balls 2 or 3 years ago to "celebrate" the tunnel's 50th year and talk about how the tunnel is Highway 99's crown jewel. CROWN JEWEL OF CORNDOG FUCKING SHIT.
50 years ago yes, the tunnel was amazing - both Richmond and Delta was mostly farmland. However like most things in Vancouver/GVRD, they fail to recognize the fact that times have changed and that A) maybe more buses should be put into place that people can actually RIDE, or B) widen the tunnel when the both sides started to develop.
Another problem I have is the new SFPR (South Fraser Perimeter Road). This lane widening/highway building project was meant to resolve the traffic jams on River Road (which to this day is a single carraigeway despite the fact that there's a bajillion industrial areas on either side). The problem is, the traffic jams on River road are caused by the Massey Tunnel (and Alex Fraser on the other side). How are they fixing this problem? why not by improving the ramps to the highways, but just twinning and expanding the feeder roads onto the arteries and keeping the choke points where they are. BANDAID FUCKING SOLUTION... and another querk with this project that my boss found out is that some of exits are one direction! if you want to head home at the end up the day have fun looking for another entrance!
Regarding the bus: From where I work (an industrial area), there's only one bus lane that serves it during peak hours (understandable), which goes to either Newton or the Ladner loop. The bus to there takes about an hour (because the only crossing over 99 from 17 is the same overpass the Massey Tunnel entrances are at) Then from ladner, I need to take another bus that goes direct to Richmond center, and then another bus from there to around where I live... Tried this once for a grand total of 2.5 hours of waiting and sitting on the bus with the wheels going round and round.
/RANT
TLDR:
FUCK THIS TUNNEL FUCK THIS SHIT.
8 LANES INTO ONE. PEOPLE BUDGING. HOV LANES DONT REALLY HELP.

plus it doesnt help that your work place is like in the worst places of all when it comes to rush hour lol i've had to deliver that way around 3pm and make my way back and while it took only 20min from about your location and crossing it with one lane (its not so bad around 3pm) i fkin can't stand it.

I don't understand why you choose to make the tunnel part of your commute if you hate it so much

I work near the Richmond side of the Massey, and I regret my decision every time that I decide to go to Point Roberts after work during the afternoon rush hour. |

or use the ever so popular transit system. by then it'll probably only cost 5$ for a 1 zone...but you'll be saving your gas money for your own personal trips and you'll be helping the enviorment! only downside is that you would have to leave for work at 5am to make it to an office for 8-9am.

I worked at a place that was originally a few blocks away from my old house in Langley, then one day the boss moved the office just outside of DT Vancouver. You can't expect someone to break a lease contract or sell their house in a situation where that happens.

I just had to make the choice between a short commute and a bigger place. I chose a short commute.
Life is about choices and sacrificing one thing for another. To me there's not really much difference between people bitching about their commute and me bitching about how small my place is. It's the choice I made.
For the rare exception where someones business up and moves and you can't get out of a lease, sure. But that's the exception, not the rule.

I drive through the tunnel everyday during morning and evening rush hour traffic. I'd say the times I have seen someone change lanes on a solid white lane are close to zero. People are generally pretty respective in there.
I turn on my parking lights when I get in, but no big deal if others don't turn their lights on.

I commute the tunnel everyday for the past 4 of 7 years. The worst was when I was living in Richmond, 20 min drive that takes 45 min on a good day if not 1.5 hrs. 90% just sitting on steveston waiting. I bought a place in Delta/S Surrey and that was ok, but most of the time I was sitting on hwy 99 with the tunnel traffic just to make the hwy 17 exit, that was also excruciating. I now live back in Vancouver off marine and surprisingly it's the best commute.
After work...that's when the REAL fun starts. I just end up working OT till 6-630 so the counterflow gets taken out
