It is a 5-speed as well | I'm all for a project car, but, just be aware you are about to blow loads of money that wil likely cause a bunch of headaches, all be it with some joy in between, and will get 10 cents on the dollar in return.
I really hope you have money to blow on this and aren't some starving highschool student who is going to spend money on this rather than going to school - because it sounds like more education wouldn't be lost on you!

A mexican block 302 or a Dart block are good for far more power. Really with the SBF(Small block Ford) the limits are only as far as your wallet takes you! 8 seconds at over 160 mph street driven? I just want something fun to drive on dates and to the Wendy's drive-thru at Cambie and Broadway at 3 AM.
I kind of want to keep the car mild power-wise until I learn to drive it and get a decent suspension under it.

I've never driven a stock, auto 4 cylinder 318i. If a Miata can beat it, damn is that shit sloooooow. I drove a girl's 1994 or so blue Miata a couple years ago, sure it handled well but the car had a hard time out-accelerating the 99 B-line.

And by stuff, I mean you have spent countless hours on foxbody forums and paid someone to do the swap. Am I about bang on accurate?

318i.. both in the E36 shell and E30 shell.. super turtle machines for modern standards.
great chassis... good on gas. but slow. feels like a boat anchor tied onto a 325i

And by stuff, I mean you have spent countless hours on foxbody forums and paid someone to do the swap. Am I about bang on accurate? | You say that as if you don't need a sharp mind to complete a project. I bought the car half-finished, most people would be extremely unwise to buy someone else's mystery project. Trust me, I know all-too-well how much a hidden problem can cost you in the long run. After my Supra got crashed by my friend, the timing had a very hard problem to diagnose. Something was fucked and it took swapping out of countless parts to fix!
This is a very simple package though. It also has a complete, 150 page swap manual with diagrams and a ton of info. The E36 isn't a black box nightmare and the wiring mates up easily with the Ford's wiring harness. The exhaust is a ghetto header-forward design but even backyard welders were able to fabricate their exhaust systems. The radiator is out of a '94 Thunderbird, the slave cylinder from an '81 280ZX, it already had a custom driveshaft made for it as well. Knowing all of this, and weighing whether or not I felt it could be completed on a tight budget, is part of the fun. I just think it is SO cool that this car is a mish-mash of parts with nearly endless upgradability. How much fun could I have if I ran it supercharged one year, turbo'ed the next, and then maybe the year after that run a nitrous fogger kit?
If I had a garage I'd do most of my own work!

The E36 chassis is very highly regarded on Grassroot Motorsports and Corner-carvers. The parts are also absolutely dirt cheap. They also have classic lines. |

BMW forums all say that 0-60 time for an e36 4 door auto is 9.8. Much more than your stock 7.5 like u said or your "modded" low 6. Low six 0-60 times aren't that easy to hit in normal everyday cars especially 318 bummers. My bro has a 325 with an exhaust and there's no way it hits 0-60 in low six seconds. Look at the cars that from the factory have low six 0-60 times and look at the hp on them and the weight and something just won't seem right with your times.
Lose the iPhone app man it obviously doesn't work.

Go to an actual Dyno and prove the talk with a Dyno slip and shut us all up. Stock 318 has 143 hp according to BMW. And believe me. That's at the crank. Expect to lose at least 15 percent of that by the time it hits the wheels.

Its actually a better value to mod than an AE86....
But that m42... as reliable as it was... so powerless.
