| Bell upgrading and the new 2 year contracts?
Long story short. Went into the bell store to ask about the value of my 4s in terms of a trade in for a 5s. Was told by the rep that if I planned on upgrading it would be more wise to call into retentions because everyone is being forced into new plans when they upgrade a phone now with this 2yr stuff. I mentioned that I have a great coperate plan and he said that didn't matter. Anyone have similar issues? Has anyone been able to keep their current plan when upgrading to a 2 year contract?
Currently mine looks like
300min
6gb data
early eve/wknd
.07 LD
1st min is always free
for about $70+tax

Could be a possibility because now they won't be making as much as locking you in for 3 years before with your existing plan.

The rep is absolutely correct. They don't have the ability to grandfather contracts in anymore. Your only choice in-store would be switching to the new shitty in-market plans.
Give retentions a call. Since you're corporate, mention to them that Rogers is offering you a corporate plan with 5gb of data, 350 nationwide mins, per second billing, uimited text, caller ID, VM, all for $50. Use your contract fulfillment as leverage to keep, or get a better plan. Posted via RS Mobile |

Like it or not, if you are renewing and getting a new phone, you will need to get a new plan. The subsidization on a phone is cut by a year now, so they need to make sure you pay off the phone price tag quicker (by charging you the newer rate plan).
Buy your own iPhone 5s. Spend $700 now, and then you can use that leverage to speak to their retention and get a $50 grandfathered loaded plan, vs a $90 a month plan.
Over the 2 years you will have saved quite a bit. Posted via RS Mobile |

I disagree with the above, but I am on Robbers so that might make a difference.
I am in the same boat as you, I have a very good $60 corporate plan (6gb of data, more minutes than ill ever use, 2500 texts, and 500 free pictures messages). So I didnt want to change my contract. After a bit of back and forth both with the people in the store, and on the phone.
I signed another 3 year deal and I got to do a full hardware upgrade (so i got an HTC one for $125). The best part about all this is my contract was not actually up till about may of next year. And I am sure when I want to upgrade next time I will just complain about being on a 3 year contract when they aren't even allowed to have me on one, and I can get a new phone.
The key for me is to not have my contract change because a similar plan would cost me 80 or 90 bucks a month.
I think the OP should phone explain his situation and see what they can do for him, they will want to keep you as a customer so hopefully they can work something out.

Carriers now only do 2 years, because if they allow you to sign a 3 year contract now, then you can technically "ditch" the last year and walk away from a 3 year contract only having done 2. Posted via RS Mobile |
