anyone else feel like the UFC turned the page from the relatively boring last couple years and has gone bananas with big fights and big cards in the last year? so many of the casual fans fell off due to stars fading, and cards being runined by injuries but man the last little while, but this year is looking unreal. remember when mighty mouse used to headline PPVs against a guy you've never heard of, with no real co-main? almost every PPV now looks like those 3 or 4 stand out cards (superbowl weekend, july 4th weekend, new years weekend)

if you believe dana, they've had three "the biggest UFC ever" in the last 6 months with ronda/holly, connor/jose, and connor/nate. and look at some of the fights coming up:

197:
DC vs JJ
mighty mouse vs who cares
pettis vs barboza

198:
werdum vs miocic
jacare vs vitor
maia vs brown

199 has 2 title fights again:
weidman vs rockhold 2
cruz vs faber

and you've got coming up all spread around free cards:
RORY VS WONDERBOY!!!
arlovski vs overeen
rashad vs glover
mir vs hunt
machida vs hendo
jds vs rothwell

and this is apparently the "lead up" to UFC 200 which dana says is going to be ridiculous and there's so many rumors floating around the possibilities are endless

what are the guesses for 200?
GSP vs robbie/nate?
ronda vs misha 3 or misha vs holly 2?
holly vs cat
conor vs jose?
nate vs rds?

MarkyMark 03-10-2016 05:30 PM

I feel like GSP will somehow make it onto 200. If not he'll never come back

Why doesn't Aljamain Sterling get more love from the UFC (I don't even think they re-signed him yet). He's got what it takes to be star and can bring some new life in the 135 division.

Sterling calls out 'Mr. Tate' Caraway: Will you just retire and be a housewife? - Bloody Elbow

lol @ the international womens day tweet

would have preferred the one in my avatar but oh well.
Check out Jon Anik's new '209' tattoo following Nate Diaz's UFC 196 win - Bloody Elbow

Has anyone bought one of those UFC fight kits? or know someone how has? I have a feeling they are a total flop.

GLOW 03-11-2016 12:38 PM

i kind of wanted either the giblert or machida or even koschek (signed with bellator so :lol at making one) ones thinking they might be collectors items :lawl:

RRxtar 03-11-2016 03:49 PM

jonwon 03-11-2016 06:16 PM

The peaks in 2009 and 2011 are of course Brock Lesnar. The two peaks before the huge one are Ronda Rousey fights

Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock fail drug tests for Bellator

In one of the Bellator MMA's biggest events to date, Kimbo Slice battled DADA 5000 and Ken Shamrock battled Royce Gracie. Today it was revealed that both Slice (real name Kevin Ferguson) and Ken Shamrock both failed their post-event drug tests:

Quote:

Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock both failed drug tests at Bellator 149, MMA Fighting has learned.

Slice and Shamrock had banned substances in their system per the results of pre-fight drug tests. Bellator 149 took place Feb. 19 in Houston, Texas, multiple sources said.

Both men have been administratively suspended by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) pending an adjudication process, sources said. The official test result documents, showing the exact substances Slice and Shamrock tested positive for, have been withheld by the TDLR due to potential pending litigation. Athletes on the card had urine samples taken before their bouts.

Typically, the maximum discipline for combatants who fail drug tests in Texas is a 90-day suspension and $5,000 fine.
What a surprise.

fliptuner 03-11-2016 10:17 PM

Given their performances, I'd say the drugs didn't help. :troll:

just curious, when browne fought barnett and KO'd him with elbows, were those elbows legal? they were behind the ear and thought they were to the back of the head, or is that area considered the side of the head?

SkinnyPupp 03-17-2016 08:16 AM

You're supposed to picture them wearing headphones - anything behind the headphones is illegal, anything on or in front of them is legal. Those elbows were borderline both in placement and possibly "12 to 6" motion [I can't really recall] but I guess legal

Anything behind the ears is illegal but the refs don't always catch onto that which is damn shame. It's like the whole issue with Jones and Browne and their constant 2-3 eyepokes per fight.

MarkyMark 03-17-2016 09:22 AM

Maybe if they were more consistent with their reffing this wouldn't be a big problem. For things like eye pokes, nut shots, grabbing the fence, back of the head, it should be at most one warning and then take a point every time after.

I've seen so many fights where the ref says "don't grab the fence" like 6 times, and even grabs the guys hand off the fence before ever taking a point away.

Maybe when people start losing the fight over points lost on eye pokes and fence grabbing the fighters will take it more seriously.

Berzerker 03-17-2016 09:28 AM

I agree. Leave the guys hand on the fence, they are refs, not police. They shouldn't be smacking the guys hand off the fence. They should be punishing it with points. If they aren't training to not hold the fence that's their fault. It's funny how it's legal to grab the fence with your feet though. lol.

One warning should be it. Especially with eye pokes. Those are fight changing.

Berz out.

Ch28 03-17-2016 09:28 AM

Yup, I don't disagree with you there. I think Rogan has touched on it before during UFC broadcasts, usually after someone has either repeatedly grabbed the fence or when Jones/Browne fight and they're on their 3rd eye poke and the ref still continues to give them a warning.

No fighter will stop gaming the system like Jones and Browne are doing because they know there are no repercussions except a few warnings. Nothing will ever change until fighters start getting automatic point deductions on the 2nd eye poke or fence grab. Groin shots are a little harder to gauge simply because of the inside leg kick and the proximity to the area, but you rarely see a lot of 2nd or 3rd nut shots like you do with eye pokes and fence grabbing (unless your name is Cheick Kongo)

GLOW 03-17-2016 12:45 PM

thanks for clearing it up guys. i just rewatched the fight, looks like the 1st elbow was legal , maaaaaybe the 2nd but the rest looked illegal.

no rematch for meathead, he signed with bellator

SkinnyPupp 03-17-2016 05:45 PM

Anderson vs Uriah Hall may 15. I believe that's the arena show in Brazil.. that should be interesting to see! They also want Mrs Cyborg to fight on the card
