It wasn't a case of DC being bad, but Silva just being that damn good. There's always the chance that you're seconds from being KO/TKO'd by him and that plays a huge part in what you can and can't do while fighting. We've seen it in so many Silva fights where he's just toying around with the other guy and then turns on a switch and ends the fight in 10 seconds because he's finally had enough of the other guy's shit :lol

I don't think that you can really "figure out" USADA testing, because it is completely random and at all times. I think DJ was tested like 4 times within 2 weeks or something leading up to his previous fight. He was on a Twitch stream playing video games when they showed up out of the blue and he had to cut the stream short so he could piss in a cup hahaha

BTW all this USADA talk, does anyone notice how the fighters are definitely starting to look better now, than they did when the testing first started? You still see deflated physiques, but not to the point as we did the first few UFC's after the first testing.

Seems as though the fighters have somewhat figured out the system a little better now.

As soon as it was announced, you know guys were going to get scared straight into jumping right off, scared of the 2 year ban. And you know what happens to the body after that. Sure enough, those were the guys that got affected the most.

After that came the period where guys figure out new ways to game the system, and we're starting to see better physiques again. Aldo looks pretty much how he did before USADA for instance. Others are still getting popped for minor things like designer drugs and peptides. Others still have their new natty physiques.

I think eventually the PED users will keep getting caught, except for the very top few guys who can afford to stay ahead of the curve

is it me or did DC seem really tired at the end of the fight? He really didn't seem to have the cardio he did in past fights.

Silva did a great job and at the end of the third round he really seemed to get the feel and could turn it on but it was just too late. The kick to DC's right hand sure looked like it hurt him.

SkinnyPupp 07-10-2016 12:41 PM

Keep in mind even though he had a full camp, DC still had to face Silva, the GOAT, on 2 days notice as well. That has to be tough, and I think he handled it pretty well. Short notice fights are always awkward, even for the guy who had the full camp. I don't really like them at all TBH

GLOW 07-10-2016 12:56 PM

Ya facing Silva has to mess with your head a bit. Silva didn't seem to get in to that groove where he does the hand movement wing chun style that sets up the hyper super combo finish

At least he was prepared to fight a taller and lankier striker before (Jones), so the style matchup isn't that big of a variance.

RRxtar 07-10-2016 01:38 PM

I think the intangible that no one is talking about is howuch heart DC had left to put into this fight. Imagine how excited you'd be if you just found out your wife left you and you need to perform at an elite level 2 days later. That's about the mindset DC probably had for this fight. He said in their postfight interview he did what he had to do. Which is all he needed to do

It's official - $4 billion and Dana is staying

UFC officially sold for $4 billion; Dana White to stay on as president

I wonder if Rogan will stay, because if he doesn't it's going to be some really bad commentary. Nobody is even close to being good enough to replace him.

Ch28 07-10-2016 11:49 PM

It's also the largest sales in the history of sports.

SkinnyPupp 07-11-2016 12:28 AM

Should be interesting to see how things change. By a lot of indications, a lot of the bullshit behind UFC that piss people off was due to Lorenzo - Dana was just the face of it.

I don't follow MMA to the extent of many in this thread but I always watch the fights. What do you mean by "BS behind the scene that pisses people off"?

Mr.Money 07-11-2016 07:02 AM

dana white has a share in the company, wonder how big his cut was...200 million?

Stuff that people complain about when they don't like a decision that has been made. Everything from who fights whom, Reebok deal, uniforms, salary, etc

around 9%, so around 360-400million or so?

SkinnyPupp 07-11-2016 09:58 AM

Looks like no China investment at all is involved in the purchase, huge change from initial reports where both competing offers had a lot of money from China and HK

SkinnyPupp 07-11-2016 11:03 AM

Chael is on JRE right now, and said the substances Jones failed for were both "estrogen blockers". I guess pharma aromatase inhibitors but who knows

Verdasco 07-11-2016 12:12 PM

basically jons getting caught.... no one was definite he was on cycle but with this, this proves it right

but cmon, we all know a shit ton of fighters are on cycle :lawl:

GLOW 07-11-2016 01:00 PM

add vegas hendricks to the list of mystical fighters like sea level cain? LUL

Hendricks: 'I'm kind of over fighting in Vegas' following UFC 200 loss to Gastelum - Bloody Elbow

Verdasco 07-11-2016 01:32 PM

He was juiced the whole time he started his rise to WW champ. GSP was adamant that they do more testing when he fought Pig Rigg. He's never been the same ever since USADA testing came in. It's absolutely no coincidence whatsoever.

GLOW 07-11-2016 02:35 PM

based on the scoring system, he still lost to GSP :troll: LUL Kappa :fullofwin:

MarkyMark 07-11-2016 04:38 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if Hendricks got cut, 3 losses in a row, he's a shell of his juicer self and can't lay off the Big Macs enough to make weight.

mikemhg 07-11-2016 05:04 PM

Good riddance, never liked the guy. People were cheering for Calvin the whole fight, looks like Hendricks personality during the whole GSP fiasco turned people off. I don't think he'll be cut quite yet, he's still an ex-champ, but he's definitely on his way out.

Unless he considers something crazy like moving up to MW.

RRxtar 07-11-2016 05:47 PM

i wonder what portion of the UFC dana owns now. i wonder if his share increased or decreased or stayed the same? apparently the fertittas retained a small portion of ownership as well.

im glad hes staying. we all have a love/hate relationship with dana. but it would be too much of a change if he left too.

with such a consortium of owners now, i wonder who actually will be in charge? will it be run as an investment or with an intention to grow it globally. i think those are two very different paths. love or hate the fertittas and dana, and say what you want about how much money they make vs fighter pay, but they were focussed on growing mma.

also, everyone keeps quoting that they purchased the UFC for $2m and sold for $4b. everyone seems to forget that at one point they were apparently $100m in the hole. it would be really interesting to know exactly how much money they put into it before it was profitable. i bet in total they were close to half a billion invested over the last 15 years.
