anyone feel like 2016 is the year of the mega PPV cards? definitely a huge change from years past. partly due to there finally being a new generation of star fighters again, and way more competition within the top 5 of weight classes

The_Situation 10-13-2016 12:29 AM

Yeah, I'm not expecting 2017 to be even close. 2016 had UFC 200 + UFC in MSG.

RRxtar 10-17-2016 05:07 PM

Gsp released from ufc!

dlo 10-17-2016 05:20 PM

Georges St-Pierre says he's no longer under contract with UFC: "I'm a free agent" - MMA Fighting

Quote:

Georges St-Pierre is no longer under contract with the UFC, he told Ariel Helwani on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour.

"You heard it right," St-Pierre said "I'm a free agent."

St-Pierre, one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport, said his lawyer, James Quinn, terminated his UFC contract after the promotion did not meet a deadline to offer him a fight recently. GSP said he was under a 2011 contract with the UFC and was working on a new deal, but talks fell apart when the UFC was sold to WME-IMG in July. GSP said WME-IMG pulled the offer on the table from former CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and put negotiations on ice.

"It was like a shock, because we felt like we were making progress, we were almost there," St-Pierre said. "When they told us that, I got angry."

He's one of the biggest stars in the history of MMA, and one of UFC's biggest draws ever

N.V.M. 10-17-2016 07:28 PM

And way past his prime.

I'd like to know why you think that?

That's your personal opinion.

He's still a huge draw worldwide, especially in Canada. He never lost his WW belt and only vacated it because he retired.

If Coker and Bellator pony up the cash to sign GSP then it'll be a huge gain for them. It instantly legitimizes them as a threat to the UFC. You have to remember that for many years, GSP was the ultimate company guy. He did drug testing before it was mandatory, he wore suits before people wore suits, he did all the interviews and was always a pleasant person to speak with. He never ripped into the UFC and really played ball with what they wanted.

RRxtar 10-17-2016 11:40 PM

Maybe not so fast. Dana disputing the claim now. Apparently gsps lawyer gave the ufc a deadline and the ufc only half responded.

Gsp really wanted on the Toronto card

LOL @ new UFC owners (taken from MMA Hour)

During negotiations, the UFC told GSP that re-signing him would require a huge investment on their part because they would have to spend tons of money to make him familiar with a new generation of MMA fans. When asked about this, GSP said it was more funny than anything and that he's confident he would sell out an arena. All in all, not a good look for the UFC.

if they did that...they really need to do a skit where bonnar, tito, rampage, chael surround him...and then GSP turns heel like hogan did and they start the belator version of the nWo and take over. somehow work in Stich too :lol

and yes :lawl: FailFish at new owners thinking they need to re-introduce GSP...i was joking with my friend this morning ya people wouldn't know who is he...GPS??? isn't that an electronic device??

MarkyMark 10-18-2016 08:19 AM

I knew when GSP said his lawyer ripped up his contract that it wouldn't be that easy lol

And at the end of the day, is GSP really gonna go fight some nobody in Bellator and risk losing, just to stick it to the UFC? Probably not.

past his prime or not, i think he can beat a shit ton of UFC fighters still..

GLOW 10-18-2016 08:44 AM

he got called out by ben askrin already. maybe GSP would go and jab him to death ala koschek

Berzerker 10-18-2016 09:47 AM

How can you say he's past his prime? He's probably in the best shape he's ever been in. I think the biggest surprise to me is that he's still going to be welter weight. I thought for sure he would have moved up to middle.
UFC just wants to pay him that 2011 money. Not the new McGregor money.

Berz out.

Derek_N84 10-18-2016 10:19 AM

I think GSP is still championship material at WW. Woodley got stuffed by Rory's jab, imagine what GSP's could do? Wonderboy poses a different threat but GSP is a beast of a wrestler and tactician.

I can only imagine how much better he has become in this time off because he was training the entire time, not to mention he got a nice break from all the head trauma.

that's b/c he doesn't do the new way of promoting:
Quote:

brag ‘I have money!’ and it sells, people are stupid...
“They don’t know who’s the real fighter or not. They just like to see expensive stuff on Instagram or something. I don’t know.”

i like moose before, starting to like him even more now that he's a bit more talkative.

LMFAO thats the biggest load of shit i've ever heard. GSP is a household name in MMA

jonwon 10-18-2016 03:13 PM

I think it's mainly about dat sponsoship money. GSP aint dropping Under Armour and Gatorade for Reebok and Monster

GLOW 10-18-2016 03:24 PM

even people that don't know him know enough to call him "the RUSH" :derp:
just like i heard people on the radio referring to cyborg as "the cyborg" :lol

Tatsuya Kawajiri requested to be let go too. RoadFC $1miiiiiillion dollars tourney?
or maybe getting up there in age and wants to fight closer to home?

Verdasco 10-18-2016 03:53 PM
