That overhand left punch! Wow! TKO for Poirier! |
Shocked! Wow ... Poirier looked wobbly but man ... found that combination. McGregor is limping ! |
Poirier retires? |
WOW |
No way Poirier retires ... trilogy for sure! And he's in line for title shot. |
Those cap kicks were game changers. |
So weird hearing Poirier talking to DC and Anik about how much he doesn't love fighting any more, and going home... Sounded like retirement talk to me. Weird! Hope we get some more Conor fights and then the rubber match! PogChamp Khabib stay retired please |
#RIP |
Great fight between Mcgregor and Poirier. I wonder who Mcgregor fights next... Chandler, Ferguson, Olivieria, Hooker, Diaz? Looking forward to his next fight |
Sounds like he wants to stay active in MMA but what about his boxing fights they keep talking about. And not with those YouTube idiots. |
I don't think Conor is at the same level as most of the top 5 in the division. I thought it was ridiculous that he was ranked so high after beating Cerone at welterweight. If he cares to be competitive at lightweight, he'll have to be a lot more active. Pretty happy with the betting odds though $$$. :fullofwin: |
i wanted and called poier ftw, but my buddy said we kind of need a 'connor' to cheer for...after the win i do feel bitter sweet... flip you made some $ tonight?:fullofwin: :gayfight: |
MMA definitely needs Conor. Poirier probably made more tonight than he has in all of his previous fights combined, times 3 |
Meh Conor is only interesting when he wins. He might get another crack at it but if he loses again who gives a shit. I'd be 10x more interested in GSP vs Khabib than Conor vs Anyone at this point. |
The class act is definitely a breath of fresh air in the ufc. It was getting pretty cringe from the wannabes. |
Conor has always been humble and classy in defeat. The wannabes need to learn that too. Also his confidence is real, not phony. Anyway, he knew this wasn't a big risk to lose, because naturally it sets up the rubber match. People will want to see that, because he did well in the first, and can adjust, shake off rust, etc. Everything he said in the promo was setting up for that rubber match. "Can't be inactive" etc. Dude is a brilliant promoter, you have to give credit for that! Some guys can dominate a division and nobody will care, and when they complain about not getting paid or not getting the fights they want, it falls upon deaf ears (looking at Steve here for instance) People will want to see Conor fight as long as there's a good story to the match. That's why he's so good and so important. It's not just about wins and losses, it's about the story. There aren't many guys like that left anymore. Brock, Ronda, Anderson for a while, and Conor. And to a lesser extent, guys like Chael, Bisping, etc. These people draw interest through various ways, and it's sometimes but not always just "because they won a lot". |
i enjoyed the entire card. the story on the dude getting cut to sneak in a bag is just weird... |
Lol at some of the Conor memes https://i.redd.it/g1xhi33e38d61.jpg https://i.redd.it/pjvadws758d61.jpg |
Conor is gonna fight Poirier again. He said that he will re group and pick himself up. It's gonna be a trilogy between McGregor and Poirier. Conor guaranteed a trilogy during the post-fight interview. Poirier's kicks to Conor's thighs, the low kicks, were the key to Poirier's victory. McGregor said "Fuck It. It is what it is. I'll regroup for sure. Maybe a different stance. That is what I will do." "Take the shots, take the licks, and keep on going". McGregor mentioned a different strategy to fight Poirier if they fight again. Grappling. A ground game to counter Poirier's kicks. |
This will definitely be a trilogy. I'm somewhat surprised Connor got handled so easily, and his mystique has definitely diminished going forward here, but he's still a draw. I was surprised by the size mismatch between Poirier and McGregor. Poirier seemed quite a bit larger physically than Connor, much more then their previous fight. I chop that up to Connor's inactivity, Poirier has been active, he's carrying that muscle mass, that density. You could tell Connor built his physique back up during camp, but it's simply not enough, he didn't carry that density that he had earlier in his career. If Connor stays active, I could see him getting back into shape here, but we'll see. I was the only person to pick Chandler at my table, everyone had Hooker. They just didn't know how much a beast that mofo is. I remember watching him starch fools back in Strikeforce and Bellator in the early 2010's, always thought he'd be a wrecking ball in the UFC. I recall watching him on Bellator during a trip to Big White back in 2011 against Eddie Alvarez, going "damn this kid is a monster". It's crazy seeing him 10 years later absolutely destroying a top tier talent in the UFC. Talk about longevity. |

Depends if Poirier wants a money or a title fight first. Conor needs to beat a top 5, to get another fight with Dustin. |
Conor will fight whoever he asks for, theres no way Dana is going to make him 'earn' his way back. |
Last 6 fights ... 3-3. Not even sure you can count the win over Cowboy a 'W' over any serious opponent. Cerrone was so washed up. L to Diaz in 196 W over Diaz in 202 W over Alvarez 205 L to Khabib in 229 W over Cerrone in 246 L to Poirier in 257 Let's see Justin Gaethe vs. McGregor .. I think McGregor would have a hard time. Or put him up with Oliveira. Connor is definitely on the decline. If they match up Tony Ferguson and McGregor ... I dunno, Ferguson is also over the hill, would not be impressed even if McGregor win that. |
Gaethje and Poirier for the belt. That's the rightful 2 ...anyone else is just for gate receipts and not the sport. |
