Charles Oliveira is fighting someone else as well, some no name, at least not someone I heard of ... Arman Tsarukyan in April 13.
So Oliveira is not fighting Islam. Gaethje is not ... these are the two top contenders, and they will need to rest up from this fight before a title shot. Islam is idle ... WTF?

I don't see this ending well with Halloway. Gaethje is prob one of the heaviest hitters out there! I thought Gaethje would get a shot at the belt ... why is he filling in time with this nonsense?
gaethje is probably trophy head collecting with big names, max is one of the 145 goats with a name and will be fun for him to strike with him
i feel like charles is going to clear out the division for islam... taking on young up and comer ranked guys since he already beat justin, dustin, michael, beniel, etc
As someone who pays almost no attention to MMA, I have to say some of the factors that contribute to me not caring at all are that I don't know who any of the fighters are... back in the day even without paying attention I knew who most of the big names were.
Also there's too many weight classes and such, the whole system of making weight is BS top to bottom and everything just ends up being grappling. I know it's very technical and takes a lot of stamina and skill, but I don't want to watch 2 guys just hold eachother on the ground.
When someone finally gets free for a big KO shot it feels more like it was by luck than skill.

Yup there's no stars anymore. Usman was the last hope really, and he just kind of fell apart
But for some reason it's still incredibly successful. The same people cheer for Donald Trump though, so
Just watched highlights, it looked pretty even, both fighters looked beat up. Usually it takes a lot for challenger to beat the champ so to do it on a split decision is kinda rare.

Maybe because it was a featherweight main? I watched the main after the Canucks game, and for me it was just two random little guys, but the crowd was completely into it. It was a good short fight, but could have been a prelim for me, given how anonymous and vanilla the guys were.
I would say UFC needs more crossover stars, they're all gone now, but for some reason they are still insanely successful with mains like this.
I guess Volkanovski isn't a 'no name', he puts on a good show and is a good guy but I don't think my head is in the sand, I honestly did not hear a peep about it.
To non hardcore fans he definitely is a no name. He's not going to get attention from non regular viewers like Brock Lesnar or Ronda Rousey or GSP or Conor McGregor or Jon Jones would. He's basically a guy who is a tremendous fighter, a champion, but will probably be forgotten about in a year or so.
This isn't a judgment on him or his abilities.. He's just not a star
