I don't think he's raking their eyes on purpose though.
i don't think he's going for the eye rake/poke, but he knows good and well what throwing his hands like that does and knows it will mess with his opponent's minds that it may happen and thus affecting their momentum/rhythm, and if the fingers should catch, meh no sweat off his back. reminds me of the good old simpsons clip "not my fault should you walk in to me and get hit"
I think he's using that technique for not only keeping opponents away but for judging distance. He's got the longest reach of any fighter in LHW (and possibly the entire UFC - his reach is equal to Stefan Struve). If he's got his hand on their face, he knows that the it's unlikely that his opponent can punch him.
Still hate eye pokes in the MMA though - I bet it's only a matter of time before the glove design changes.

Exactly, he's from the Jackson camp where they're really good at game plans, I bet they discuss this and treat it as a gray area sort of thing. It's not any different than other sports where super stars knows certain tricks of the trade they can get away with.
i agree it also helps gauging distance and helps feel a guy out when striking. also the hand on the face acts as a screen from striking with his elbows and punches.
No one is debating "why" he does it. It's obvious and effective with his reach. However given his past fights I think he should get a pre fight warning saying they are watching the fingers and there will be an immediate deduction if he pokes. Not 2 warnings mid fight where the damage could already be done. Posted via RS Mobile
On a side note that standing arm crank he did was pretty damn awesome. Locked his arm under his pit and wrenched upwards hyper extending the shoulder. Hurt Glover for the rest of the fight. Anyone got a gif of that? Posted via RS Mobile
My issue is that people complained that "he kept doing it" despite the fact that he didn't poke Glover's eye once after the warning.
Which brings up another issue, that he obviously CAN do it without poking the eyes. I think from now on he'll take care not to poke the eyes while doing it. He should at least!

I just watched Hackleman's vlog, and he apparently fucked him up pretty bad with that. He is going for an MRI this week. It was a pretty awesome move.. I also liked his shoulder strike while holding both Glover's hands.
I think Bones just keeps getting better. It's pretty amazing to see
Yea that's the move. As soon as he did it I was in awe. Almost lifted him right off the ground. Great use of height and leverage. Possibly changed the whole fight with that move. Posted via RS Mobile
He's obviously not trying to poke the eyes, but it happens a lot it seems with that technique and if it happens he should be punished for it. If a fighter likes to knee the inside of his opponents leg in the clinch a lot, but manages to notoriously sack his opponents a couple of times a fight I think people would be a little up in arms as well.
Agreed, wasn't a fan of JJ early on, but boy, how can you hate him now?
Consistently proves his doubters, comes up with game plans and new techniques. Incredible stuff. Thinking of Gus, he's the only one that really put some significant damage to JJ.
Not sure how many knockouts he can take before he turns half retarded. The dude is charimastic and should have no problems landing a decent regular job.
