if anybody needs a summary of the last 3 rounds, Lawler had 26 significant strikes on the ground compared to Hendricks who had 1....ONE

Jack Slack had a great post about last night's PPV regarding that

Jack Slack: How Robbie Lawler Took the Title | FIGHTLAND

Quote:

Aside from the low kicks, the big question was how Lawler would deal with the wrestling of Johny Hendricks without a biceps tear. The answer was pretty darn well. Hendricks got Lawler down five times in seventeen attempts. And what did he do with the takedowns? Nothing. He couldn't. Hendricks landed just a single strike on the ground throughout the entire fight. Where Lawler, as the rounds progressed, had more and more success with short ground strikes.

SkinnyPupp 12-07-2014 09:08 PM

There was a rumor that Hendricks had a really rough cut (and if you listen to him at the end, he tells his corner it took too much out of him) but I think he must have been injured too.

Normally Hendricks walks around at around 215 to 220 lbs so a near 50 lb cut would be rough on an ongoing basis. Going to Middleweight would probably not bode well for him either as his 5'9" height would be a significant disadvantage, even with his wrestling and good chin.

SkinnyPupp 12-07-2014 09:35 PM

I doubt we'll ever hear of an injury any time soon. Had he won, we probably would.

That's roughly how much Rumble Johnson use to cut to fight in WW. Look at him now with a very minimal weight cut. Dude is an absolute monster

Not really racist! 12-07-2014 11:15 PM

lmao his coach said he had a broken leg going into the first fight :lol :lol :lol

if you watch embedded ep 5, he talks about his diet during the off season, how ironic

SkinnyPupp 12-07-2014 11:16 PM

He had a torn bicep in the first fight.. Imagine fighting with a torn bicep! :ahwow:

You all know I'm no fan of Hendricks, but he really looked off last night

I'd also look off if I spent 90% of the fight with my head in between another man's crotch.

SkinnyPupp 12-08-2014 12:22 AM

I mean he looked off walking down to the cage...

UFC 181 Results: The Sober Play by Play - Why the Decision for Hendricks vs. Lawler II was not a Robbery - Bloody Elbow

Another good breakdown that makes it seem a lot closer than some of you think.

SkinnyPupp 12-08-2014 03:05 AM

I agree that any 3 outcomes - Hendricks, Lawler, or a draw - would have been perfectly acceptable. It was close and just came down to round 4. Do you prefer to reward a guy for a bit of striking and takedowns that go nowhere for 4 minutes, or the guy who tries to actually effectively harm his opponent for 30 seconds?

There's probably no "right" way to decide, but I go with the latter.

Hendricks' problem, if not an injury, was trying to coast round 5, just like he tried to do against GSP. The difference is his corner actually told him not to this time; he just didn't have it in him to do otherwise.

MarkyMark 12-08-2014 06:18 AM

All I know is I don't want to see Lawler vs Hendricks 3 anytime soon, let's see if Rory can step it up this time

Nate Diaz slams UFC?s CM Punk signing: ?F-ck him, f-ck the whole situation? | MMAjunkie

Nate Diaz makes a lot of sense. Michael Jordan had to play in the minors when he wanted to play baseball.

SkinnyPupp 12-12-2014 01:32 AM

I don't know about Nate Diaz, but fighters who are publicly slamming the CM Punk signing fill into one of two categories:

1) The ones who are trying to position themselves as an opponent. They know that he'll probably be a pretty big deal, and it's a good way to be near the top of the card.

2) The ones who think MMA is a "true sport" and that having an untested fighter on the main card somehow takes away from the "integrity of the sport"

GLOW 12-12-2014 02:09 AM

I still want to see him fight the green power Ranger :lol
