I think they'll have to change the format some way.. Do they really want guys from the same camp fighting in the final rounds?

HOLY CHIT!

Jon Jones tested positive for cocaine metabolites in a prefight test for 182!

Quote:

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones failed a drug test prior to this past weekend’s UFC 182 event due to cocaine metabolites and has reportedly entered rehab.

MMAjunkie today confirmed the test results with Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Bob Bennett.

Jones (21-1 MMA, 15-1 UFC) successfully defended his title for an eighth consecutive time after defeating Daniel Cormier (15-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) via unanimous decision at the Jan. 3 pay-per-view event. He was randomly tested on Dec. 3, and results came back on Dec. 23, Bennett said.

The drug test detected benzoylecgonine, a primary metabolite of cocaine.

“At this point and time, Jones checked himself into a rehab center, and we’ll cross that bridge when he get to it,” Bennett told MMAjunkie when asked of the NSAC’s plans in wake of the failed test.

Because benzoylecgonine is not banned out of competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency, the NSAC could not halt Jones from fighting at UFC 182, which proved to be one of the biggest events in recent MMA history.

Bennett said any further comments should be directed at the UFC or Jones. UFC officials and Jones’ reps could not immediately be reached for comment.

Jones is ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA light-heavyweight rankings, and he’s also No. 1 pound-for-pound. Despite being just 27, the fighter’s four-year title reign has already sparked debate that he’s the greatest fighter in MMA history.

Bones will be in rehab for a month... Come out a new man and he will thank god for giving him the strength to get through this and Dana will say the UFC will always support the fighters and everything will go back as normal..

That's exactly what that means.. To the UFC its still a clean win for Bones

RRxtar 01-06-2015 03:13 PM

the legalities in the NSAC are retarded.

apparently jones was "out of competition" less than a month out from 182 (so they couldnt suspend him), but other fighters are considered "in competition" even without a fight scheduled. hell, i think chael had already 'retired' when he got popped the second time in the summer.

RRxtar 01-06-2015 03:17 PM

another fun fact is the UFC scrapped their brand new drug testing platform a week after JJ's test results came back

My thoughts exactly. Who cares? It's a personal issue, not related to MMA at all. It's just like someone failing for weed.

They stopped doing their own out of competition drug testing, which only relates to overseas cards. Commissions can still do it if they want.

This is absolutely unrelated
