Conor grabbed that guy to hold him back. Typical 'bro' move to make yourself look a lot tougher than you really are.
I think it's just too over the top, but people like SP will lap that shit up like it's honey from the golden goddess.
The whole thing was staged. There was nothing "bro" about it, or trying to "look tough". He was just putting on a show.
I thought it made for great TV. A lot of people are way more excited for this fight than they were before. And even Aldo, one of the most dull personalities of all the champions, is gaining fans. He's doing his part, and he knows he's going to get paid. Though it took some convincing...
Who gave a shit about featherweights before Conor exploded on the scene? Despite it being a pretty damn stacked division fighter-wise? Now they have what will probably be the biggest PPV of the year. IMO he's like GSP/Anderson/Bones in their prime. If he wins the title, which most people doubt he will, it will be one of the biggest events in UFC's history.
MMA is definitely at a point where some superstars need to emerge. not just stars, but superstars.
im a firm believer that the local downturn in the UFCs popularity (I say local, because I believe it is growing world wide) is due in large part to the decline of the stars we all gor into MMA with. Chuck, randy, GSP, scary anderson, tito, rampage, hughes, franklyn, shamrock, even lesnar, forest, chael, shogun, wandy, fedor.... all retired, or very out of the spotlight. and whos taken those places? bones and rousey, and then there is a pretty steep drop off.
most of the time when i ask my casual friends if they want to come watch the fights, they ask whos fighting, and then say they've never heard of them.
getting some stars in the ufc is badly needed. and it takes time to grow that new generation of stars.
just look at this poster and tell me if the current champs even come close.
and the chuck/rampage era > machida era by a long way
thats tough to say. the last time he was in the UFC he was a scary ass mother fucker crushing everybody and training MMA full time.
now hes 37, has been out of MMA for 2+ years, was exposed bad in his last 2 fights, and is clearly only considering the UFC for the money. and will probably be fighting potatos
his first fight will probably be big, and if he wrecks that guy, maybe his next ones too. but if he looks bad, its another story.
bellator made CC and offer, the UFC *somehow* heard about it (..."hi, lorenzo? yeah its mirko..."...) and they went $$$ and signed him back up. They dont want to give Scott Coker and Spike any ammo at all.
Hopefully Lesnar does come back because that will be even a bigger draw then last time I think.
He's not renewing his WWE contract for sure. Whether it's just a negotiation tactic, can't be sure. They want to do a Brock vs Mir "rubber match" but he may end up signing with Bellator if they pay more.

LOL the legendary cursed UFC poster. That was indeed the most marketable group of champs ever for UFC
I'm a big believer in Aldo -- for my money, he's the P4P champ, even ahead of that cokehead LHW -- but I really do buy into the McGregor hype train, and I think he's going to give Aldo a very tough fight.
Obviously McGregor doesn't have the record to back up his act, but he really has destroyed a pair of decent UFC FW's recently... plus he has a few inches of height and at least 4 inch reach advantage over Aldo.
Obviously Conor would need to avoid Aldo's insane leg kicks and move like a ninja around the cage, but I could see him taking a judge's decision.
Still going to say Aldo has the edge, but McGregor could pull it off.
(In some ways I sort of wish they were giving Conor another fight before he gets a title shot, just to pump up his hype train even further... but, maybe they don't want to risk him being upset against another top-5 opponent, as that would destroy their PPV $$ dreams for the Aldo fight).
Anyway, to me this is a pretty intriguing title fight.
Yeah a lot of people are outraged at the cops, but the way I see it, all he needed to do was pull over and comply. The whole "I don't know if you're cops are not" seriously? A police officer identifies himself as police, you comply... It's so much easier that way.
If they weren't police and were going around dressed as police, driving a police car, robbing people with guns and tasers... well they're going to get you whether you comply or not.
That part at the end was sketchy as fuck though... "oh the camera wasn't on.. oops! "
