Silva seemed kinda scared this fight, I think he was very worried about his leg but I have a feeling he can still go for the title but needs a couple more fights to get the confidence. This card really sucked and I wasn't impressed at all, thank god for my apple tv and mac book which makes streaming so much easier now.

I actually really enjoyed the card except for the Woodley fight

So happy to see Anderson back, but he looked so... normal. I didn't expect him to finish Diaz (it only ever happened once like 12 years ago) but I guess that happens when you have two counter strikers. I was hoping to see Nick with more of that volume striking he does. He did some in the first round and it actually looked pretty good at times.

I guess Murdoc might be right in that this was more of a fight in his mind than anything. I guess the reaction after the fight suggests that.

I'm interested to see what's next for Anderson... He might not fight again unless GSP comes back. That fight would probably be a lot like this one.

SkinnyPupp 02-01-2015 04:34 AM

I also liked the card, except the Woodley fight. Jordan Mein looks good but I could tell his movement was so inefficient. If he didn't win by halfway through the fight, he would have been gassed anyway. That body shot was sick.

Sucks to see Barbarian get tapped out again... Letes can take a shot, holy shit

rsx 02-01-2015 07:15 AM

You can definitely see some rust from Silva. Diaz...man, I don't know. Yeah, he was moving forward, but that's it. No jabs, nothing. Where's that infamous "volume striker?"

GLOW 02-01-2015 09:49 AM

he kept missing i guess silva was moving better so diaz couldn't connect as much other than kicks and the couple of times he got inside for brief bit of dirty boxing.

diaz did better than i expected.

Watching the Anderson fight really showed that he's not part of the elite anymore. The precision isn't there and you just get the feeling when he goes in for exchanges that any decent shot that he eats is going to put him on his ass. Him and GSP should fight next and then both ride off into the sunset after one last big payday.

I felt the same way every time he went in for an exchange. Most of his shots were on point, but the Silva of old would've landed every single shot and put Diaz on his ass over and over again. In all fairness, you have to remember that he's turning 40 in a few months.

This was from a week or 2 ago. Good article about what Joe Lauzon thinks about the Reebok deal. Ill just quote a few things that jumped out at me, you can read the rest. Its going to be real interesting to see what happens in May. I think a lot of the guys who are a little outside the title picture but are fan favorites are going to get FUCKED hard.

Joe Lauzon: Reebok sponsorship numbers coming in May, says UFC | MMAjunkie

Lauzon said he usually makes between $20,000 and $30,000 in sponsorship money for his bouts, as opposed to newer fighters, whom he estimates make between $2,000 and $8,000.

Ed Herman asked them, ‘I’ve had 17 fights in the UFC – am I going to be the same as someone on their first fight?'” “And they’re like, ‘Yes.'”

The deal, which goes into effect in July, mandates that fighters are compensated according to a tiered system driven by the promotion’s official rankings, which, at this point, are determined by the media.

Lauzon may have 17 fights under his belt, hold the unofficial title of the UFC fighter with the most disclosed performance bonuses, and generally be considered one of the more fan-friendly and well-liked fighters on the UFC’s roster. But when the uniforms go on, he will be on the lowest tier of the compensation ladder.

He could even make the same as someone from the newly ranked women’s strawweight division, who may have just one octagon bout under her belt.

So lets stop and think about that.

According to UFC rankings, Overeem, Mir, Mitrione, Gonzaga, and Struve are ranked 11-15 in the HW division.

So according to the new sponsorship plan, those guys, who could be in co-main events on any PPV, or headline fight nights, are in the same sponsorship bracket as 10 girls who 95% of fans have never heard of, nore care about.

Joe Lauzon isn't even in the top 15 and he was making $30k/fight. What's he going to get from Reebok? A coupon for 10% off his next pair of shoes?

Ch28 02-02-2015 07:11 PM

I think the general consensus is that the top 'selling' guys will be making bank, while everyone else will make significantly less.

It's a huge slap in the face and I think that's why there's all these class action lawsuits now because all the fighters finally realize that the UFC needs more competition so that they can actually make a decent living

Tyron Woodley's foot in the first round, which I guess explains the performance after that

Former middleweight champion Anderson Silva has tested positive for an anabolic steroid.

Silva was found to have Drostanolone metabolites in a test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Jan. 9 ahead of his unanimous decision victory Saturday against Nick Diaz, according to a statement released by the UFC on Tuesday.

“Anderson Silva has been an amazing champion and a true ambassador of the sport of mixed martial arts and the UFC, in Brazil as well as around the world. UFC is disappointed to learn of these initial results," said the statement.

The 39-year-old hadn't previously fought since suffering a leg injury in December 2013. He was also tested for steroids Jan. 18, according to ESPN's Brett Okamoto, although those results have yet to be released.

Diaz may have also tested positive for a drug, albeit not one that would have influenced the fight. Diaz was caught with marijuana in his system in a post-fight test, according to Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole.

The UFC has not commented on Diaz's test.

so much for going out with a 'W'

SkinnyPupp 02-03-2015 07:37 PM

For me personally this doesn't tarnish his legacy, considering literally every other fighter his age, and 90% of the rest of them will be doing the same.

Still, it's just dumb to fail. Even dumber to fail for weed for the millionth time.

Speaking of dumb, Tyron using an existing picture from the internet to make his foot look worse than it is (it actually is broken but wtf?)

SkinnyPupp 02-03-2015 07:40 PM

As I've said, I don't mind when a guy is taking steroids. Or even an athlete if he lies about it (they have to). But when they speak out against it, while they are doing it, that's what I have a problem with.

Quote:

“When the guys test for the steroids, (they should have) no more fights,” "When you use the steroids, you use them for a long time. When you use the steroids for a long time, you have a problem. It’s a drug and it’s not good for the sport.”
