An 11-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Wednesday night after Vancouver police officers found a handgun and more than 400 rounds of ammunition at Frontier Middle School, 7600 N.E. 166th Ave.
The school and adjacent Pioneer Elementary School were put into lockdown Wednesday about 9:20 a.m. for two hours.
Officers said they also found several knives, according to a press release distributed about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
There were no injuries in the incident.
The boy is a student and was booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Vancouver Police Department Major Crimes Team is investigating.
Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said investigators with the department’s Major Crimes Unit started conducting interviews around 11:30 a.m. that continued well into Wednesday night.
The Facebook page for Evergreen Public Schools was flooded with comments from parents, most concerned that they weren’t notified of the lockdown.
“As a parent, any incident that involves my children even in the vicinity of a weapon constitutes an emergency and I have the right to be informed,” said Tara Nolan Monroe in a comment thread on the district’s Facebook page. “Any parent who is involved in and concerned about their children would not want to learn of a situation like this after the fact, particularly from a public institution.”
Others acknowledged that they primarily want their children to be safe, even it means being left in the dark about what’s happening on campus.
Parents were primarily alerted about the incident through the Frontier and district Facebook pages, along with the district website, said Kris Fay, spokesman for Evergreen Public Schools. Some parents heard about it through local news outlets or text messages from their children.
While middle school students were sent home with a letter outlining the incident, elementary school students did not get a letter because they were on an early release schedule, Fay said.
“I really hope Evergreen uses this as a huge learning experience and changes the way they notify parents in an emergency such as this. Yes, I want all resources directed at keeping my children safe but if someone can take the time to post on Facebook, they should be able to initiate the flash alert system,” said Brenda Lehto Hudson on the Facebook page.
A small group of parents at each school in the Evergreen district subscribe to the FlashAlert system, Fay said, which sends out email and text message notifications. However, the third-party system is unpredictable and often delayed in sending out emergency information, Fay said. Fay said that the district has found the quickest mediums to reach parents are Facebook and the school website. The district would consider integrating FlashAlert into its emergency alert system if more parents used it.
An estimated 900 students attend Frontier Middle School and about 600 attend Pioneer Elementary School.

And sadly, bc of this fact, it became a 'meh, happens almost daily' - which is true, wasn't there a shooting death at a school in the states earlier this week, and some kid shot dead by police today bc he had a replica assault rifle.

No middle schools in Vancouver, BC.
BC does have counties, though. 8 of them.
County of Cariboo
County of Kootenay
County of Nanaimo
County of Prince Rupert
County of Vancouver
County of Victoria
County of Westminster
County of Yale
, which none of them are Clark County.
Counties are used in administration of justice as opposed to regional districts.

With that said you can still have a gun culture that includes education and safety, but if you want it bad enough I'm sure an 11 year old can still get into a gun cabinet etc and get a gun

When I was an 11 year old child, the only kind of gun I could've brought to school was a plastic super soaker or plastic silver dessert eagle that made sounds when I pulled the trigger...even if I wanted to bring a real gun to school I couldn't because I DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ONE!
While it would be ridiculous to say no other country has gun violence, I am curious which other first world country that has had nearly as many gun-related incidents in the past few months?

oh, i'm not saying it isn't bad in the US, it is ridiculous, however I just can't stand ignorant fucks that just pull out the 'murica thing as if Canada doesn't, and hasn't in recent times, had horrific gun related mass shootings. but it is a cultural thing, all the more right leaning states seem to think it's a part of life, which I have no problem with, until people with mental issues get ahold of them and go on little shooting sprees

Not going to happen, of course, but the solution is simple enough.
You have a country where guns, war, defending your home and property is written in your constitution and national anthem. Not going to happen.
Their solution is to carry more guns to defend yourself from others with guns.
Remember the shooting at the school? Solution was to arm the adults in the building with guns. Thank god, we live in Canada. Costco Bellingham.... one day, I'mma gonna get shot there, LOLOLOLOL.
Actually, more likely in that new Winco. So much redneckness at that place. Walmart, not much better.

There are quite a few accidents involving guns in the states BECAUSE of leaving the gun out in the open. In the past few months, just to name a few memorable ones:
1.Father (state patrol officer) was showing some guns to his relatives, one of them happened to be loaded. One of the small children picked it up, shot the mother. Mother passed
2.5year old picked up a handgun that the 19-year old babysitter left on the table as she took a nap, and ended up shooting himself accidently. No phones meant picking up the boy and run him to another home to receive help. Kid passed away.
There are so many of these types of stories. I blame the owners of these guns for poor gun control. Gun safes are there for a reason, and keys that can be found and/or easy combos shouldn't be happening.(more gun safes these days have combo locks as opposed to keys)
With that being said, this is NOT a 'murica thing. Canada has the same problem... When Alberta had that flood over the summer, the RCMP checked homes for people/bodies and seized a butt load of guns. The RCMP claimed that they only seized the guns temporarily because they were being stored unsafely (out in the open, not locked up) and the houses were vacant due to the flooding. Canadian's went butt hurt mad at the RCMP and the politicians demanding that they get them back ASAP
It's worth noting that despite the media's focus on gun related issues, that gun related crimes/death in the US have decreased drastically in the past 20 years.

Nope, you made ignorant comment, next guy made a reasonable comment - there is a problem which is worse than most (all) other first world countries, you just said "fuckin' 'Murcia - dumb fuck" or something as stupid as that, that's why you get failed
