Well, if it makes you feel any better, consider everything after 1970 to be the Mustang II.

I think the Mustang has been good for what it is. They seriously sell one to grandmas, teenagers and everyone in between. My mom drove a 1988 Mustang across the country when she moved here.

It's successful. They are doing what no one else can...they make a sports car. Their technique is to make a version for everyone. You want a kick ass, pure performance Mustang? Got one. Can't afford it? Here's the GT. Can't handle it? Here's a v6. Can't buy new, choose a decade. Don't want a roof? Not a problem. What color you like son, they come in 56 shades.

Know why they didn't bring back the Supra, the RX7, the turbo z, the NSX...need I continue? They were too pretentious to say, "here's the cheapie version. Go nuts" They all went with the top of the line model as the only model. And it killed them.

That to me isn't a failure by any means. That car has been in continuous manufacture in some form since halfway through 1964.

If sales drop on this model, then it will be a rare treat because it will have a new model in 3 years.

Toyota and Subaru make the FRS/BRZ and the Impreza

Nissan makes the 370z and the GT-R

Mitsubishi makes the Lancer Evo

Mazda makes the RX8

Honda/Acura are toying with the NSX

I don't see your point, they clearly show intent to continue making sports cars, that's never changed. All that Ford has done is beat them all at building the ugliest car.

You have a Mazda 3, why don't you ask yourself that question

What part of Mazda 3 was made by Ford though?

Mazda never had "Fix Or Repair Daily" or "Found On Road Dead" kind of reputations.

Before my S2000, Supra, BMW, I had 3 Mustangs, an 88 5.0 drop top, 96 GT and a 97 Cobra

All of my Mustangs were very reliable and never let me down, I did have a problem with my 97 Cobra, but that was because I drove the balls off it and forgot to change the oil, haha.

I hope it's smaller and lighter then the current few generations. If you look back at the old 65 fast backs they're pretty small and without all the tech, pretty light.

As a FR platform if it's not light I'll have to stick with the BRZ as my top pick for a contemporary entry level sports car.

it says that the overall base weight has dropped from roughly 3800lbs to 3300lbs? i need to check that again.

Its supposedly hovering around 3400. Rumor has it a 2.3 4-banger Ecoboost is in the works. Looking at the car from the rear, it has a bit of a Ridge Racer car vibe to it.

not really a rumor. the article says "2.3L performance package" is available, and this will be one of the main engine choices in europe and overseas for export models. not sure where it will fit into the domestic models though because of the v6.

also, the car pictured above is of the base V6 model. i can't find anything for the turbo or GT.

i bet everyone in this thread changes their tune when they see a GT or higher model on the lot for the first time.

pretty well all of the exterior pictures we've seen have been renders. and since the GT of the latest generations have had a GT trunk emblem instead of the pony, I think they've all been v6 models as well.

the mustang has a way of looking way more muscular in person than it does in pictures. its look has improved tremendously every facelift of this era, i dont think they're going to miss the mark this time.
