Going to be interesting to see how the Ice Dance will finish

Let the judging controversy begin!

Avatar and Blond Fro sits atop the leaderboard with their subpar performance.

Gumby 02-17-2014 08:52 AM

Wow those Russian skippers!

pastarocket 02-17-2014 09:08 AM

So far so good, for the women's hockey team. Canada leads the Swiss 3-0 after first period.

Virtue and Moir grab silver. I didn't catch either performance in it's entirety but the CBC announcer was saying "you could pick either team and not be wrong". And apparently the USA team was undefeated since the 2012 World Championships, so there doesn't seem to be enough there for a real controversy.

a 2.5 point spread in the free and short dance is somewhat interesting though.. world records for every dance the US pair performs?? hmmm... I guess it is the Olympics, and athletes are "letting it all out", compared to the world's......

sonick 02-17-2014 09:33 AM

Yeah, I heard Kurt Browning explain this morning how the Americans' program is more technical, vs. Canada's which is more artistic and that the judging may be skewed more to the former.

bensta 02-17-2014 10:04 AM

ya i was watching womans curling last night (lol), some total smoke shows play curling..

Yeah I read a few things on how some "experts" such as the person who invented one of the required elements for the short program said that Virtue and Moir should've been in first place after said short program.

But even when taking into account the 2.5 points spread (which apparently is a HUGE divide), the Americans brought it again for another world record in the long program by a bigger spread than in the short.

So even though the scores should've been much closer, it looks like (to the untrained eye such as mine) that the best team still won the gold.

I find it very interesting that the top 2 teams train together. I wonder how much seeing each other's routines comes into knowing what needs to be done in order to top each other.

It seemed like Moir and Virtue were pretty content with the Silver knowing it was their last Olympics. Isn't it White and what's her face's last too?

m3thods 02-17-2014 12:50 PM

I'm guessing so since they're "old" compared to the Russian couple. Add another 4 years, and it's likely that even if they don't say it's their last, some young couple will either push them down or out altogether.

Our own Kaitlyn Lawes still takes the cake in Women's Curling.

silver medal performance? are you predicting the future?

I guess I called it.......... not a surprise. It's the way the judging goes. It's why you watch this shit for the performance and not the result. The deal was made long ago and the results were as predicted.

Actually, history repeats itself.......... long ago, by you guys' standards, there was this pair that gave the performance of their lives. Perfect to everybody who watched it. Brought tears to many eyes. Should have won the gold for sure, but nope. It was fixed.

Now, like some people have stated here in this thread, the competition was pretty close, so the controversy was not really there.

In my books, our pair skated a tad better. Dance......... it's about the emotion and the things you canot measure.

Also, our pair are hella better looking. That American woman, gawd, she creeps me out........ then she talks and it's like get me outta here, LOL.
