black stuff from exhaust.

I ve been driving from van to langley daily and it has been fine. Over the weekend i parked it and was going to drive again. I noticed my rpm was jumping and a trail of black stuff (not oily )on the ground behind the exhaust. Any suggestions to figure this out? is it carbon build up? should i clean with some sort cleaning agent?

my car is 98 prelude
standard.

Thanks people

You're running rich so you're getting too much fuel and not enough air.
Probably try seafoaming and see if that'll get all the gunk out.

You might also have a head gasket issue. My old 93 del Sol burned oil like crazy, and always left black soot behind.

If you didn't mention the bouncy rpm, I would've suggested that it could just be moisture in the exhaust picking up carbon from the pipes and dripping out the tailpipe.

What's the mileage? Any drivability issues? Loss of power? How are the plugs?

Well I just had a oil change the week before. My prelude always burnt oil though butI havrnt notice any noticeable issues.Did my spark plugs , rotors, caps, and o2 sensor. My current is 175000km and haven't noticed any loss of speed or power.

I don't noticed at the moment it was smelling like something burning in the interior sometimes. I will check that plugs tomorrow. I'm thinking its my fuel injectors
