Catalytic Converter Location

I tried searching and couldn't really find anything that answered my question

I have a 2000 Acura EL 1.6 all stock with the original d16y8 the CEL light is on and I get the code P0420 for a catalytic converter deficiency the question I had was is the cat built in the exhaust manifold like some Honda's? or is it separate from the manifold?

I have heard both and was wondering if someone who has some experience with Honda's could let me know

I would look myself but I have no place to do so and it is cold and snowing outside

It's separate. Another RS member had the same problem with the same car and he just gutted the cat out lol.

My EL and Integra both had the same codes, as said above its under the car. Only the D16Y7 (non-vtec) in Civics had the cat built into the exhaust manifold.

I ended up buying a Magnaflow, direct fit cat off ebay for $150.

Thanks both of you for the answers, if you did was the cat hard to install?

Not familiar with Hondas but take bolts off flanges, remove o2 sensor. Reverse for installation.

Pop the hood and see what's under the exhaust manifold.
