Operation Rev Nose 2013

Despite my earlier post, we are pleased to announce that Operation Rev Nose will re-appear for 2013!

What: Revscene is offering a "safe ride home" for it's members who have driven somewhere and have become far too intoxicated to drive. This thread is where you can sign up to be a part of the experience

When: The program will begin Friday, December 21st

How: You and your partner will drive to where the caller is at. The caller hops in one car and the partner hops in the caller's car. You all drive back to the caller's place and leave their car safely in their driveway while they stumble into their place and sleep it off.

Gas ain't free: We get it. But this is a volunteer gig that keeps drunk drivers off of the street. You'll be doing good work.

I can only help out on one weekend/one weekday/between the hours of 9 and 12: Thats cool. We'll work with your time and geographical limitations. We appreciate your help, no matter how much or how little you can give.

We're looking for volunteers to help out but who can also commit to being there. If you can tell us with certainty you will be sober, awake, and available on one of the next few weekends we would love to have you help us out!

I am available any day after let's say, 7:30 pm.

I don't drink at all, so I'm like the perfect "designated driver."

BoostedBB6 12-16-2013 06:33 PM

This would be cool to continue into the new year as well.
I would be down for this in the new year once the baby pops out :P

N drivers are only allowed one passenger so hopefully that wont affect your ability!

I enjoyed listening to it :troll:

An N driver can be the one driving the lonely car. Essentially what happens is this:

A driver and their partner show up to X Bar. The RS member says "Ok, my car is right there. Take me and it to Y House".

On the way to Y House one member drives the original transport car and is the lonely car, and the other drives the RS member and their car.

If there is only a single passenger, its not a problem. If the passenger has homies, then the N driver needs to be all alone in the lonely car.

Make sense? I used a lot of words to describe a simple concept.

Depending on how stuff turns out i might be home to help again this year, still only have my N :(

Zedbra 12-19-2013 07:11 AM

I'm available most nights in Squamish. I'm on holidays starting Dec 20 to Jan 2, though I usually have some bubbly with my wife New Years Eve.

roastpuff 12-19-2013 07:33 PM

I'm able to help as well, located in Vancouver near UBC/DT.

I can't do the 21st or 22nd, but should be free 23rd, 26-30th.

Everymans 12-20-2013 10:42 PM

I'd like to volunteer as well. I don't have a partner though. I'm available all nights between now and new years day. This is my first christmas alone so I'd really like to spend it helping some people out.

XplicitLuder 12-21-2013 07:34 PM

seeing as im alone for the holidays i dont see why not. weekdays im free from 7 to about 10pm due to work, and weekends maybe up to..1am latest

id like to burn/new west and maybe some parts of coquitlam :) and vancouver..depending where as im near lougheed mall. dont have a partner

MasonJar 12-21-2013 08:05 PM

I heard that the person being picked up is required to "tip". How much am I expected to give for the service?

Oops I didn't know it was required... But if I were the driver is expect Like 5-20? Depending on distance?
I think I tipped 10 last time for 5min distance

bcrdukes 12-21-2013 08:22 PM

Wait, let me get this straight.

In order for you to utilize this volunteer-based service, you are required to tip the people who have volunteered their time and resource?

What? Did I read this right? Correct me if I am wrong. Simply asking as I'm sure there are inquiring minds whether this is fact or fiction or if MasonJar is spewing nonsense (typical noob user.) :suspicious:

I wasn't/am not one of the volunteers,
However used the service last year
It's not "required" but I think it's common sense for people to tip at least a bit Given that the volunteers are using their own gas to drive your drunk ass back.

But I'd be bit wtf if they demanded me certain amount lol

bcrdukes 12-21-2013 08:33 PM

I get that it is always a nice gesture to leave a tip, but if people are required to tip, it really takes away from the premise and idea behind volunteering.

Might as well start the Revscene Taxi Co.

El Bastardo 12-21-2013 10:49 PM

This is the first I've heard of this. No, a tip is absolutely NOT required. I have no idea people were even tipping.

I suppose its a good idea if you're so inclined. These people are using their own gas and time to come out and help you out, but nobody will be refused for not giving a tip.

IF SOMEONE DEMANDS A TIP FROM YOU TELL ME IMMEDIATELY

impulseX 12-22-2013 02:06 AM

i remember the first year i helped, i got tipped, but definitely wasn't expecting it
